It is impossible to hijack the Monthly Fiber Arts Thread. Knitting, crochet, quilting, weaving, general crafting - there is no telling where it will go, and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our Fiber Arts Ping List.

NOTE: This is a once a Month Ping List. We do post to the thread during the month. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Fiber Arts fans are welcomed any time!

FWIW, ‘movie star’ Karen Allen owns a fibre arts store in MA:

In spite of the presence of fowl feathers and animal hides, is Fly Tying one of the fiber arts? Asking for that friend.

I’m jealous. 3 out of 4 of my craft shows have cancelled. No need to buy fabric right now. But i might anyway! retail therapy is almost as good as sewing

I’m knitting a “Betsy Ross Flag” as a birthday present for my son-in-law. It’s 42” by 76” and I made one for my son for his 13th birthday: In 1976. I didn’t think I would be able to find the pattern, but I did! :o])

Of course! It’s an art form! My Aunt had a knack for tying flies and did it as a sideline for many years.

We used to have a Black Lab/Golden Retriever mix named, ‘Cinder’ (short for ‘Cinderella’ because...KIDS!) and the boys and I used hairs trimmed from her tail to make lures one summer.

They were called ‘CinderLures’ and were quite popular with the fly fishermen in the family. ;)

I’m just doing a simple project of cloth napkins and a matching table runner for Christmas Dinner. Mom & I decided this year she’ll do Thanksgiving and I’ll do Christmas out here at the farm, so I’m starting NOW, to plan the table - because I love doing a ‘fancy’ table for a holiday meal.

My $1 ‘gold’ plate chargers from Dollar Tree were a big hit last Thanksgiving. We’re easily amused. ;)

I’m also making Gift Baskets this year with homemade goodies (Maple Syrup, Pesto, Pickles, Apple Butter, Christmas Cookies, etc.) and want to make some sewn dish towels and dinner napkins and crocheted dish cloths for the baskets, too.

I can sew...straight lines, LOL!

I know! It was a great fly at the time. We should’ve patented it. ;)

I saw this little poncho in the Annie’s catalog last week. It’s a sort of crochet stitch workup that I’ve never seen, but the catalog indicates it’s an ‘easy’ skill level (?)

Yes, ma’am! The first one I made was fun, because it was done in a bi-centennial year, but this one will be fun because I’ll improve on the pattern! I can hardly wait for it to take shape.

The Day of the Dead shawl was a great hit, and when I make it for my daughter (in purple) I’ll make slight changes in the pattern.

Knitting and crochet are therapy, you know... ;o]

I’ve seen that stitch before but it’s relatively new. It appears to be just a series of chains in a modified “V-stitch” pattern. I’d love to do it, so I may download the pattern.

Thanks for the link!

PS: It’s dc and chain stitches, and I think I’ll just make a shawl of it, as I usually wear them to church. I’m always looking for a new design and this will be perfect to keep off the chill of the A/C.
