One would think that having the American sports worlds most popular athlete playing in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, would equal impressive ratings.
Well, one would be wrong. One would in fact be very wrong indeed.
Instead of posting the good, if not great numbers that the NBA should have drawn for a Game 1 Finals clash including with millions at home on lockdown and LeBron James on the floor, the NBA saw a catastrophic drop in both ratings and viewership.
Get woke, go broke.
According to the Hollywood Reporter:
The opening game of the series between the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat brought 7.41 million viewers to ABC, the smallest audience for the finals since at least 1994, when total viewers began to be regularly recorded -- and likely ever.
The previous low was 8.06 million for Game 3 of the 2007 NBA Finals.

Who agrees with me that these sports super stars should be paid as much as the average office manager than these megabucks they are currently getting?

Yep, the NFL’s ratings falloff has been disappointingly tepid. I want to see it rocked by a 50% drop.

Gamblers. The main reason the NFL is popular in the first place.

They should all leave the US and move to Hawaii.

Maybe people are tired of LeBronI'm thinking hardly anyone likes him anymore, and for damn good reason. Talk about destroying your own brand, he's sure accomplished that. I'll never watch any game he's involved in.

Was it Timothy Leary that said “Tune out, turn off and drop out”?

The only thing keeping the NFL ratings afloat is the millions of people that are so hooked on fantasy football leagues these days. Fantasy football matters far far more than politics to them. It's sad really.

Yes. It was Timothy Leary but I think he said, “Turn on, tune in, drop out”.
I am tuning out to NBA, NFL, etc.

Probably still dwarfs the ratings for that farce that is the MLB Playoffs.
Actually, looks like MLB beat the NBA for their opening games, though night two, NBA won in total viewers. The big difference is that the NBA is down around 50% in viewership, while MLB ratings are generally only down about 25%. Neither of which is good, considering more people are home, and should be free to watch this stuff. The big popular sports bars have never been included in the ratings, so the loss from all those places being locked down means the big numbers of bar viewership should have translated into more people watching at home, but it did the opposite.

If I were to say they are acting pretty stupid, I would be accused of being a racist.
And right there is the problem.
BUT. did those fools really expect the entire stadium and folks at home TO TAKE A KNEE???
I don’t want to insult them, but they are acting stupid.

Interesting development. Now is there any bad news to accompany this story?
