A Nevada judge approved an $800 million settlement on Wednesday between MGM Resorts International and its insurers and the families of the victims of a deadly mass shooting at a country music festival in Las Vegas in Oct. 2017.

Under the settlement’s terms, MGM Resorts will make payouts to more than 4,400 relatives and victims of the shooting. The judge’s decision finalizes an agreement that was announced earlier this month.

Somebody had to pay...It would have been a waste of time to sue the estate of the dead shooter...

I guess the casino should have been more suspicious of the shooter... It was a weird case...

After lawyers take 40% that leaves about $100K per person.

This is one of those cases were I am not sure I know what all was going on but I do know that what we were told was NOT it.

What if MGM and their insurers don’t have enough money and coverage to pay those awards?

Don’t worry, they have plenty of cash. Actually it’s your cash if you have a 401K or IRA. The bleeding of American capitalism continues.

If a company - or a person - is negligent, they should have to pay for their carelessness. But for the life of me, I can’t see what MGM Resorts did wrong in this instance.

There is video of the weapons being brought in and up to the room. SOMEONE should have noted that glaring violation of the security.

MGM is only guilty of having deep pockets. How could they know some evil terrorist was going to act?

Did the FBI ever reveal a motive?

...IF, indeed, HE did “act”. It seems there are many, many loose ends and coinkydinks to this story.

Just take the money out of the FBI’s budget since they are the agency who staged the entire production.

Isn’t it possible that ‘they’ really don’t know? They didn’t really say anything more than that they never figured out motive or mentally

I’ve yet to any official response about who really was shooting, how many etc. It’s clear it wasn’t paddock.

Thanks for the reply. Were the weapons in plain sight? In other words, would a reasonable person have said, “Hey, that guy has a rifle there!” If so, then I can see where MGM Resorts could be held negligent.

But if the guns where brought up in a duffle bag or something like that...well, that would be a different story.

The story doesn't mention what MGM is at fault for. Great news you got there Fox.

I think the shooter’s girlfriend said that she had no idea what he was up to...

I guess MGM really wanted this case to go away...

Actual trial would be a bad PR for the company...MGM wants people to forget about the shooting...
