Two kidnapping suspects from Oregon were arrested in Red Bluff on Saturday following an intense encounter with police, leaving a suspect and two officers with minor injuries.
On Saturday, at 11:09 a.m., officers with the Red Bluff Police Department (RBPD) received information about a kidnapping victim; a 30-year-old man from Oregon. RBPD says the victim was being held for ransom and was being driven to Red Bluff for a cash exchange.
The suspect vehicle was found on Adobe Road and officers immediately conducted a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle was later identified as David Scott, 45, of Grants Pass, OR.
According to RBPD, an officer walked to the side of the vehicle before Scott began to drive away at high speeds. Luckily, the officer was able to hold onto the side of the vehicle while standing on the running boards.
While driving at speeds close to 50 MPH, RBPD says Scott began to swerve, attempting to knock the officer from the side of the vehicle.
As they approached Interstate 5, the officer pointed his pistol at Scott and demanded he stop the vehicle.
Scott complied with the demand and stopped the vehicle before attempting to run away on foot. He was then immediately apprehended and detained.
While investigating the case, officials determined Scott had exchanged the victim for cash just as the officers arrived on Adobe Road.
Sitting in the passenger seat during the incident was Kristina Queen, 23, of Cave Junction, OR. She was determined to be involved with the kidnapping and was arrested.
