By the way, Joan, and her sister Gloria, were both registered Republicans, and endorsed DDE.

Joan put the "bomb" in "bombshell".

She does an outstanding performance in this video, inspired by the 1932 Bonus Army demonstrations in Washington, DC, from the movie "Gold Diggers of 1933."

Gold diggers of 1933 was one of the best movies ever made.

She was a real working actress and was still terrific even after the Hays Code prevented her from showing her charms to best effect. After the War she did a slew of TV. Brassie describes most of the characters she played.

IMO the best looking pre-code actress was Toby Wing.
The finest pre-code actress was Betty Davis...boy could she act!
Nearly all pre-code actresses were forced to compete with Jean Harlow and had bleached platinum hair.

I don’t know a lot about Joan Blondell’s early movies.
When I hear that name, I first think of an episode on Twilight Zone Joan did with William Demarest in 1964.
The episode was called “What’s in the box?”
It was about an old TV this middle aged guy bought to watch Boxing.
The TV would show scenes from future events in his life.
One day, the TV even showed the man (William Demarest) killing his wife (Joan Blondell). The man was so disturbed that he returned the TV to the store.
Days later, he had second thoughts, and re-purchased that TV. It was marked as a Discounted Item, so he would save money buying this one.
The rest of the episode went pretty much as you would expect.

She was also in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, one of my favorite movies ...
A real knock-out.

As the bleached blonde goldigger, Blondell had great on-screen chemistry w/ sophisticated millionaire
Warren William who unexpectedly falls in love with her in the 1933 goldiggers movie.

“Night Nurse”... Joan Blondell *and* Barbara Stanwyck in a pre-code crime drama (with themes disturbing even today, I imagine). Still one of my favorites.

Lifelong friend of Lucille Ball until she guest starred in an early 60’s episode of The Lucy Show. Lucy was unhappy with some aspect of her performance and dressed her down in front of the studio audience. Supposedly they never spoke again.

"Lucille Ball was notoriously abusive to her co-stars. Joan Blondell made an appearance on the show, and Ball told her she "stunk" in-between takes. Blondell responded in front of the audience: "F--k you Lucille Ball!""
