Could this be why my cell phone is neither completing or receiving calls today. I live in Alabama. I have checked all my settings and they seem ok

It’s a magnetic field not a magnetic shield. Some people should not report on science if they lack the basic understanding of subjects in science. At least learn the terminology. It may shield in the verb sense but it is not a shield in the noun sense.

I’ve caught sight of the northern lights twice in southern Missouri. The first time they made the sky look red so it looked like there was a huge fire to the north. The second time I actually saw the ‘moving curtains’. They must have been tremendous farther north.

Grew up in Canada in rural areas with good night skies for viewing took sightings of the northern lights for granted … did you know if you whistle a tune the northern lights will dance? ;)

Depends on how much you had to drink and if your eyes were open at the time. Additionally, on the same thought process, you shouldn’t be able to see NL’s over the toilet.

I strongly disagree. I grew up in Northern Minnesota (around the 47th parallel, nearly double the distance from the pole as the Arctic Circle) where I saw them regularly.

I participated in a program in high school where we would report data from watching them. We learned that in our area, they would be present every few days. However, they were never seen that often. Things like daylight, cloud cover, time of sleeping, etc., restricted that.
