You know Yara Shahidi. Black-ish actor, fashion icon, passionate activist, and inspiration to us all.

Well now, the 20-year-old is out here changing the game. Yara Shahidi was just cast as the first Black Tinkerbell ever!!

The film, called Peter Pan and Wendy, will star Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson as the titular characters. And Jude Law will be playing Captain Hook!

In a recent Instagram post, she made the announcement by sharing some gorgeous artwork (by @alexcollectsofficial) portraying her as Tinkerbell.

"Thank you for all of the love," the Grown-ish actor said in the caption. "It truly means so much to me. I’m excited for this next adventure!"

Blessing us with Yara as Tinkerbell is Disney's latest move to increase diversity in live-action films. You might remember that Halle Bailey was cast as Ariel in an upcoming remake of The Little Mermaid. Let's hope this trend continues!

Remember when the movie Dunkirk came out—there was a hue and cry that there were not POC represented at Dunkirk, nor the gender confused was represented...the shame, the shame...

“...new WWII movie about Hitler with a black actor...”

That would never be allowed to happen. Hitler = Evil = white. Now perhaps a black actor portraying the leader of an elite team (mostly black) to infiltrate Germany to assassinate Hitler, that might sell. The plot fails when a white member of the team does something stupid that results in the team’s being caught.

If Tinkerbell is a Princess who is the King or Queen of that kingdom?

Tinkerbell was a fairy, not a princess. She’s no more a Disney princess than the Blue Fairy (Pinocchio) or the three good fairies Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather (Sleeping Beauty). They are Disney characters, but not princesses, princesses are always human.

If they truly want diversity, why don’t they stop rewriting Caucasian fairytales and create tales from African stories?

H.B.O. did a one-season series based on Andrew McCall Smith’s series “The Number One Ladies’ Detective Agency. It is set in modern Botswana. The cast is virtually all black. But what made it different was that is wasn’t about being black, just about people living their lives. The acting was good, the characters believable and the scenery was interesting. It’s available on YouTube

Tinkerbell was marketed as a “Disney Princess.”

As far as I know they never declared a king or queen.

"..She is actually really, really, cute. I’d tap that.."

I'm with ya on that one, Bo. Cute girl, very "weaselly" and mischievous lookin.

Why would I give a flip if Tinkerbell is white or black(ish)? To tell ya the truth, I've never seen Peter Pan and don't really care to.

A good actor can make me forget their politics ala DeCaprio in Revenant. I know I'm "on the other side" if we actually do start shootin at each other one-of-these-days. But till then, I may as well get some use outta their otherwise useless azzes.. Hehehe. d;^)

I thought Jusse Smallet was the first Tinkerbell. I guess he was behind Obama or maybe Obama was behind him ?
I guess it depends on whose turn it is to be the big strong man.
Of course Moochelle is it when all three are there.

Tokenism is the new normal in the entertainment industry. If you want to win an award it’s practically required.

J.M. Barrie based his character on an Irish “tinker”. They would travel the roads earning a living by patching and mending and banging back bent and broken pots and pans. They were gypsies. You could hear them coming by the clanging and clinking sound they made. I personally helped to save the character Tinkerbell in the late fifties, along with many other American children who watched that old Mary Martin, as Peter Pan, version. We all wished her back to health at the urging of Peter.
Tinkerbell had a mischievous side. Today I can hardly give a “tinkers dam”, or a “tinkers cuss” about Disney.
