Prez Eisenhower warned of the 'Military Industrial Complex'. I didn't pay much attention until I saw all my friends coming back from 'nam on drugs or in body bags - and I could see no strategy to win. My time to go was coming up, and even though I was turning against the war, I would have gone and done my duty. An intervening event precluded my having to go.
What I saw in Iraq was a dramatic replay of what I saw in 'nam. We were wasting our best and our brightest yet there was no end strategy. When 0bama became Prez he turned Iraq over to Iran... our most precious resource gave life and limb for Iran! ...not America.
That fact was one issue that attracted me to Donald Trump in 2016. Stop useless wars and stop wasting our most valuable resource: our youth.
I can well imagine what Trump said about our fighting troops in France a while back; that they were played for suckers and gave their lives only to enrich a greedy cabal... I know because I feel the same way since I saw my friends and neighbors escaping off of the roof of the Saigon Embassy only to come home and be spit upon.
It grieves my heart more than I can express. I still have a hard time watching 'nam movies.
I agree with everything except the last part. Trump never said that, we have confirmation of that from people who were there at the time, including Bolton. WWII wasn’t optional.

I am very bitter about my classmates that came home from Vietnam, and even more bitter about the ones that died. It just wasn’t right.
I visited the WWII memorial and took pictures for my Dad who wasn’t healthy enough to go. I had visited the Wall years before. As we were talking, my friend said something about the fact that it took so long to get around to it.
I agreed that it did take too long, but at least when they came home there was some amount of celebration, and they weren’t being spit on. And the GI bill helped a lot of them.
Proxy wars. Two great powers give their “horse in the race” weapons and incite them so they can try out some of their shiny new weapons and strategies.
As far as what was alleged that POTUS said, it sounded just like what the liberals back then were always saying. spit. I really don’t believe POTUS said it like they reported it. I do believe that he feels the military men and women were betrayed at the highest level.
