I am very bitter about my classmates that came home from Vietnam, and even more bitter about the ones that died. It just wasn’t right.
I visited the WWII memorial and took pictures for my Dad who wasn’t healthy enough to go. I had visited the Wall years before. As we were talking, my friend said something about the fact that it took so long to get around to it.
I agreed that it did take too long, but at least when they came home there was some amount of celebration, and they weren’t being spit on. And the GI bill helped a lot of them.
Proxy wars. Two great powers give their “horse in the race” weapons and incite them so they can try out some of their shiny new weapons and strategies.
As far as what was alleged that POTUS said, it sounded just like what the liberals back then were always saying. spit. I really don’t believe POTUS said it like they reported it. I do believe that he feels the military men and women were betrayed at the highest level.
Well, enough of that back to Q.
Every morning at 5:30 local time I recorded reports from various theaters in 'nam, skirmishes, battles, NVA fronts, assassinations, South Vietnamese political failures... everything. As it dragged on with no real resolution - Gen. Westmoreland with his obnoxious We are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel, when that light never brightened - I began to see a picture of war for war's sake. I began to turn against the war... but I was prepared to do my duty. I detested those cowards who slinked off to Canada.
Trump or his staff have implied that there are generals that want to keep the war in Afghanistan going, that oppose a peace settlement. Same old same old: what are our soldiers fighting for there? Marcus Latrell and a small squad of four or five on recon - Lone Survivor - surrounded by hundreds of enemy fighters - and no support! ...not enough helicopter gun ships, inadequate communications in a rugged mountain terrain; a command staff resigned to a philosophy of 's#!t happens.'
Twice told tales. sigh
