Coronavirus mutation seen in massive new study of genetic sequences from Houston – The Washington Post

Scientists in Houston on Wednesday released a study of more than 5,000 genetic sequences of the coronavirus that reveals the virus’s continual accumulation of mutations, one of which may have made it more contagious.

Coronaviruses such as SARS-CoV-2 are relatively stable as viruses go, because they have a proofreading mechanism as they replicate. But every mutation is a roll of the dice, and with transmission so widespread in the United States — which continues to see tens of thousands of new, confirmed infections daily — the virus has had abundant opportunities to change, potentially with troublesome consequences, said study author James Musser of Houston Methodist Hospital.

The new study, which has not been peer-reviewed, was posted Wednesday on the preprint server MedRxiv. It appears to be the largest single aggregation of genetic sequences of the virus in the United States thus far. A larger batch of sequences was published earlier this month by scientists in the United Kingdom, and, like the Houston study, concluded that a mutation that changes the structure of the “spike protein” on the surface of the virus may be driving the outsized spread of that particular strain.

David Morens, a virologist at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, reviewed the new study and said the findings point to the strong possibility that the virus, as it has moved through the population, has become more transmissible, and that this “may have implications for our ability to control it.”

Morens noted that this is a single study, and “you don’t want to over-interpret what this means.” But the virus, he said, could potentially be responding — through random mutations — to such interventions as mask-wearing and social distancing, Morens said Wednesday.

you may be right about the zinc. It keeps coming up again and again in studies.

Here’s another pre-print that points to zinc.
https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.09.13.20193524v1

Of note is the comment: “[the] asymptomatic person probably paradoxically harbour potentially more virulent low CpG viruses which the asymptomatic is fitted to contain but the next person may not be..”

So one of two things happen with an unstable virus: the mutations within the body of an asymptomatic become weaker and weaker, unable to overcome that body’s intracellular defenses nd it basically dies of starvation, unable to replicate, or, the virus mutations get stronger and more targeted. And while it’s still failing in the asymptomatic, now it’s a virus with more tricks mutated in, and so more able to overcome the intracellular defenses of a second body.

So....eat more meat, crab, hemp and pumpkin seeds, nuts and dark chocolate - all rich in zinc.

I would think a virus would mutate to not kill its host... just a survival thing.

Well, maybe.

Mask, handwashing, hyper-cleaning of surfaces etc.

All this leads to potential super-bugs. I have always heard you need the help of the natural micro-biome to kill/suppress the superbugs. That said, a quick search reveals you cannot find this advice anywhere on the web right now. LOL.

And to the dismay of alarmists, “The new report, however, did not find that these mutations have made the virus deadlier or changed clinical outcomes.”

Wear 2 masks instead of one. If it continues to mutate, wear one of those fancy flip-down face shields. If it still mutates, wear two sets of gloves instead of one set.

As a last resort, get HCQ removed from the "banned" or "prescription" government restriction protocols and take one pill a week. Then go on with a normal life.

You’re deluded if you think China has done this on their own.

It can easily enough be knocked down with immune system support and simple treatments that our governments and health system have repeatedly denied and kept from the American people.

And that’s not even getting into the virus’s ultimate origins or role in intended universal, global “vaccination”.

Either way, any Covid vaccine will be a roll of the dice just like the regular flu vaccine.

“Either way, any Covid vaccine will be a roll of the dice just like the regular flu vaccine.”

Any vaccine or even medication is. Even when it’s established, it won’t help some people and harm others.

Though we should have a good idea of the effectiveness of a vaccine - any long term effects, good and bad, will obviously take time to show up.

Yes and the panic porn in Colo today is 1100 “cases” at CU Boulder, batten down the hatches, we’re all going to die. ONE hospitalization, already discharged. No details regarding if ANY of these people actually feel sick.

The Orwellian crap is just mind boggling.
