The secret friendship between Donald Trump and Richard Nixon

The secret friendship between Donald Trump and Richard Nixon: Letters they sent each other in the 80s show close bond with Trump lauding him as 'one of this country's great men' eight years after Watergate

... 'I think that you are one of this country's great men, and it was an honor to spend an evening with you,' Trump writes to Nixon in June 1982, less than eight years after Nixon resigned the presidency during the Watergate scandal.

The two had been spotted together at the '21' nightclub and Trump was writing Nixon to thank him for forwarding a photo.

The next fall, it is Nixon chiming in.

'Let me be so presumptuous as to offer a little free advice (which is worth, incidentally, exactly what it costs!') Nixon writes to Trump.

Nixon, who played football in college and never lost his love for the game, then unspools detailed thoughts on how Trump should handle the New Jersey Generals football team that he had recently purchased and would fold by 1986.

Nixon included plenty of shoutouts for the underappreciated linemen, his old position.

I sat thru every moment of the Watergate hearings and cried when Nixon resigned. I never felt as emotionally close to Reagan as I did to Nixon, and collected all of Nixon's books. Since Trump came on the scene and became the president I waited for my whole life for, this news means a lot to me. I hope our conservative press has many positive articles on it.

The real secret is now out: Donald Trump was at fault for Watergate. Others were taken in and got caught. /s

This is their ‘kitchen sink’?

Pathetic. Trump is going to crush them come Nov. 3rd and Ms. Barrett will be the fifth vote to shoot down mail-in voter fraud for an expedited SCOTUS decision to prevent their coup attempt.

Now, let’s take a look at the House and Senate and see where we pick up seats and take the House back.

Reagan was a close friend of Nixon. Nixon actually sent Reagan on some diplomatic missions while Reagan was governor of California and Nixon was President.

I guess the Left doesn’t think much of Nixon for winding down the Vietnam War, the breakthrough with China, the breakthrough with the Soviet Union, or even the creation of the EPA.

To be fair, Obama brought turmoil in Egypt and Syria and North Africa, created and armed ISIS, and gave billions to Iran to fund their weapons programs and export terrorism. So he did big things too.

He kept George McGovern from becoming President, and Watergate proves (in their mind) that the election was stolen.

He also hated American commies, which is enough for the left to never give him credit for anything, since the issue is never the issue, the issue is always the revolution. Nixon held back the revolution twice, once in the 1950s as an anti-Communist in Congress, and once in the 1970s by removing the Vietnam War as a means of causing the revolution.

What they did to Richard Nixon is exactly what they are trying to do to President Trump. Disgusting.

Nixon believed he couldn’t win and put the country first. Trump is even a better fighter and he believes he CAN win. My heart is in my stomach from what they’re doing to a good man and I’m trusting him to destroy the forces that did in Nixon, another good man.

Both Trump and Mrs, Clinton have ties to Pres. Nixon.
Hilary helped prepare the paperwork for Nixon’s impeachment.
She remains very proud of her work.

Guilt by association. I want to see him written up playing golf beside Joe McCarthy.

You should buy a book that came out in 1972 by James Keogh titled "President Nixon and the Press". I read the book after reading a condensed version of it in the monthly Reader's Digest magazine (not in the hardback Condensed Books).

It really opened my eyes to the extreme bias they had against him, mostly as a reaction to his running the Congressional committee in around 1950 that exposed Alger Hiss and other Deep-State Communists. They just couldn't forgive him for that.

The dirty tricks they played on him were mind-boggling.

"Watergate proves (in their mind) that the election was stolen."

They're absolutely correct. If not for Watergate, he would have taken only 48 states instead of the 49 he did take in Nov '72, and McGovern's Electoral total would have been doubled. Doubled!!

Thief!

“Trump is even a better fighter and he believes he CAN win.”

Hear, hear!

I don’t fault Nixon for resigning. Nobody had his back - everyone believed the fake news back then (sadly).

Trump has the advantage of seeing what they did to Nixon - and we are onto the fake news.

I work as a docent at the Nixon Presidential Library. It's closed now due to WuFlu, but when it reopens, come visit us.

I was at your museum in 1995; the staff was most accommodating.
