Blanca Briceno ... called the police one day in March to help her son, who was in the midst of a mental health crisis. But by the end, hed been beaten and Tasered to death. At one point, she said, deputies grabbed her phone when she tried to film what was happening.
[C]coroners officials concluded that Briceno, 39, died of cardiopulmonary arrest, resulting from neck compression and restraint with a Taser. The death was ruled a homicide, although the designation doesnt mean it was intentional or a crime.
The Briceno family last month filed a wrongful death claim, precursor to a lawsuit, against the Sheriffs Department...
According to the autopsy report, investigators told coroners officials that when deputies responded to a call that Eric Briceno had assaulted his father, he attacked the deputies and resisted arrest.
Eric began showing symptoms of mental illness in high school and was diagnosed with mild schizophrenia, the familys claim says. He self-medicated with street drugs and spent time in jail. Most recently, he was on probation and receiving treatment through the L.A. County Department of Mental Health.
On March 16, the claim said, Eric had an altercation with his father and left the home as his parents called 911. Deputies arrived and told the parents to call them back when their son returned, which they did.
Eric Briceno 6 feet tall and weighing nearly 300 pounds, records show was in his room sleeping when deputies arrived, his mother said. She said she told deputies she would call him out of his bedroom, because she didnt want the deputies to go in. They went in anyway, she said, startling her son.
Eric Briceno was punched, pepper-sprayed and shot with a Taser seven or eight times, the autopsy report said.

They went in when he was sleeping and started mashing him?
Really, that sounds so believable/s
Don’t call the cops.
Call your social worker.
I guess night sticks are banned?
I am of the opinion that many times family members wait too late to seak help. When the person is already violent is past the time to be seaking help.
Thats one way to cure someones mental health problem.
So the family sues and cashes in, ... OK, got it.
Resting after his afternoon dose. of meth.
Never call the cops on someone you don’t want killed.
Could have been the case, and I always give police the benefit of the doubt. Awakened from sleep may cause anyone to react violently, and doubly so if suffering mental issues.
Sounds similar to case in Fullerton a few years ago. I believe the victim’s name was Kelly.
A 300 lb psyco on meth attacks his father and they call the cops.
I think mommy and daddy are glad junior is no longer a threat and see a fat pay day coming their way.
Now, could this has transpired this way? Yes, but highly unlikely.
Oh, and I meant LACSD, not LAPD.
So we are only hearing about this now because he was white?
[[Cops don’t just come in and beat the you-know-what out of people. They have to have a reason and its usually either they are threatened or the suspect is resisting arrest.]]
No no no- many cop haters insist that cops are felonious murderers in uniform, roaming the streets looking for victims- oh and they are all racists too-

Oh yes, I forgot about those white liberal Karens that pretend to care about Black lives and use that as an excuse to burn down black neighborhoods and courthouses. So insensitive of me!
Any fines or monies going to the victims should be rolled into the final judgment.
It's really sad when people come up with silly issues such as "loss of companionship" because they can no longer make love to someone who is now deceased. Even worse are federal "crimes" such as declaring a person was guilty of taking away someone's freedom of speech because the dead can't talk.
This all reeks of double, and sometimes triple, jeopardy.
The nonsense has got to stop.
Um, yeah. OK.
