Few thoughts on this, in bullet form!

• Its reported by the LA Times, which is known for gross propaganda and leaving out or adding in convenient "facts". LA Times has an anti-police history.
• Cops don't just come in and beat the you-know-what out of people. They have to have a reason and its usually either they are threatened or the suspect is resisting arrest. LAPD is also highly trained in deescalation and is most often very careful and professional in their work.
• There's a wrongful death lawsuit involved, which is always suspicious.
• There is no police report or transcript of what happened, so literally anything can be said without any fact backing it up.

Now, could this has transpired this way? Yes, but highly unlikely.
