It pays more to manage programmers H-1b visa slaves.

Fixed it.

After retiring from (non-IT) federal govt work, I did a coding bootcamp 2 years ago at age 55. Was twice the age of most of my classmates.

Now doing front-end work in react-js along with some AWS-cloud-based serversless stuff for a AI/ML startup. Not making $100k yet, but hope to next year.

If nothing else, this second career is serving as an extended Alzheimer’s screening. (Passing so far - I think )

Again clueless. You can say some that you worked with. We had an ex linebacker for the Bengals. Many were really good athletes (I used to be. Then age caught up with me. Still ride about 14 miles nearly daily.). At one time we had around 600. Most jobs have been sent to India over time. But your generalizations are just not correct.

No Ada ?

Aside from no need for it and nobody asking for it, working with Ada was not what you'd call a resume enhancer outside the DOD back then.

I forgot all about that one. Led a project that had to dip into that one a bit as some VP was convinced the apps would eventually run on both Macs and PCs. I don't remember the outcome, having gone on to other endeavors.

It sucked. I thought they used it for a bit in aviation.

Now if some one could code Joe’s language, the campaign would pay them a fortune!

I would add IEC 61131-3 as an honorable mention. I've done quite well over the years knowing Ladder.

Not to mention the fun of pressing a touch screen push button and starting a 400hp motor . . .

Your APL post reminded me of an oldie...

The RSA Algorithm implemented in 3 lines of perl.

#!/usr/bin/perl -sp0777i<X+d*lMLa^*lN%0]dsXx++lMlN/dsM0<j]dsj
$/=unpack('H*',$_);$_=`echo 16dio\U$k"SK$/SM$n\EsN0p[lN*1
lK[d2%Sa2/d0$^Ixp"|dc`;s/\W//g;$_=pack('H*',/((..)*)$/)

That is an incomprehensible mess. Looks like something my modem would spit out back in the day when I lost a connection,

REXX, Object REXX

I wouldn't mind playing with Rexx under Linux, but I didn't see anything rexx-like in my repos. Did IBM ever open source it?

Twenty years? How about double that. Definitely taking the rest of the year off, hunkering down for the election season, and watch the fireworks.
