The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is non-political respite. No matter what, you wont be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
Really great ideas for us lemon lovers.
Thank you again, everybody, for the feedback, links, history, etc.
Looking over the videos on Google, I found what has to be the easiest possible way to do this and I’m going to give it a try; namely, just bury a slice of organic/heirloom tomato in a pot, give it a little water everyday and, bingo, the little seeds start to grow... Just to see how long I can keep it alive.
Probably not long since I’ve got the worst black thumb in history, lol.
Interesting ping list you’ve got going here, Diana. Please, kindly add me to it, thx!
You’re in!
It was another week of cool and dry weather here in Central Missouri.
Not much going on in the garden right now aside from picking.
We’re still getting plenty of tomatoes. Mrs. Augie collected ~10lbs of kale/collards last week. I need to get in there with the weed whacker and do some cleanup. Won’t be long til it’s time to plant garlic.
I finally got the last of my seed ordered for next year.
I’m just waiting on my garlic to come in so I can get that in the ground.
We’ve had a hard freeze the last 3 nights in a row and expect another one tonight, then it’s going to moderate.
I’m working on my raised beds and getting them set up for next spring. I’ll have two in and I’m looking forward to seeing how they are going to work out.
You’re going to love raised beds. Best thing since the BLT Sandwich! :)
I got my Totally Tomatoes order and am going to Jung’s this week to fill what I need from them for next year.
I’m not anticipating as many problems as we had in 2020, but I’m also not taking any chances. Seeds were available locally, but not the varieties I love so much.
I have no idea what’s coming down the pike next and want to be ready.
I did make sure that everything I ordered as open pollinated.
Far more than that when you can your own awesome tomato sauce.
Diana’s Lemony Pesto
1/4 cup nuts (I used Pistachio, can use Walnuts, Almonds, Pine Nuts, etc.)
3 cloves of garlic, smashed and peeled
1 1/2 Cups Basil leaves
1/2 Cup Parsley, stems removed
Scant 1/2 Cup Olive Oil (I used Lemon Pepper flavored)
1/2 Cup shredded Parmesan/Romano Cheese
Zest of 1 lemon
1/8 tsp. Nutmeg
S & P to taste
Whirl in the food processor until it’s the consistency you like. Add more oil if you want it thinner. Makes 1/2 pint jar, recipe can be doubled.
Use just about anywhere! I’m using it with grilled chicken and pasta for supper. Cover and keep in the fridge. Keep a layer of oil on top to prevent spoilage. Stir before using. May need time at room temp for oil to liquify. (This is why I make it with LESS oil, as I’ll be adding a little on top prior to refrigerating.)
Enjoy!

Yikes!
I’ve GOT to be immune to anything in the soil by this time! Granny always said you had to eat a bushell of dirt before you died, anyway.
She also used to remark at the dirt behind my ears when she was giving me a bath: “You could grow taters behind your ears, they’re so dirty!” LOL!
I think I have had a tater or two myself.............
So...THAT’S what happened to me.
I am so saving that apple graphic.
