Ginsburg is dead, and Trump has a pick to make. What are your thoughts on a nominee?
I had been thinking ACB, but Kavanaugh got 51 votes and that wasn't right before an election. Murkowski is already a no and Collins, Romney and Sasse are looming. That means you need to hold 1 out of 3 of them and every other Republican + Pence. I don't see any Democrats breaking ranks on this.
Much as I hate to say it, I think the Democrats have a fair chance to block this nomination, and if that were to happen, I want the optics to look absolutely horrible for them as possible. Nothing could be worse for them than watching them berate a black man or woman in the hearings and vote against them while asking black people to vote for them on election day. That might be enough to pressure some Democrats to confirm.
Of course, Cocaine Mitch is 2/2 in Supreme Court pics and knows his conference better than anyone, so hopefully he can counsel the president on the best selection.
two words: Amy Barrett
Trump may change his mind now that the rats have self-identified.
He could make an Oval Office speech (to make sure the fake news media carries it live) in which he says that because of the importance of filling this vacancy with the right person to replace such a brilliant legal mind, blah blah...that he has decided to wait until after he is re-elected.
Projecting such confidence would drive the left crazy and avoid a political battle he could well lose.
Thank God, Senator McConnell is going to do his job!
Find a candidate from a Mid-Western university.
Also I for one don't believe Ginsburg dying at this moment is a positive.
If Democrats weren't motivated to vote before they now have their issue.
They're going to organize a 'get out to vote' campaign the likes we haven't seen before.
Ginsburgs' death is going to be their rallying cry.
Get ready for the onslaught.
The race just tightened.
If the Supreme Court splits 4-4 on any post election legal challenges downtown that mean the DC Circuit court will have had the last say? If the case went straight to the Supreme Court, like with Gore, a 4-4 vote could literally lead to a coup.

You cant have an 8 justice court with the sh*t show that is coming with this election.
Since Trump is a trollmaster he could always pick Merrick Garland
That's out of line. What do you have against bears?
Thomas got 11 Democrats. Different times, I know.
Nominate a black woman, jam through a vote before Nov. 3, watch it fail, and run 24/7 ads denouncing the rejection of a “woman of color” in the presidential race, and every senatorial race, promising re-nomination if we win and expand our majority in the Senate.
I was watching the 10PM news in Minneapolis and of course, they interviewed Amy “Empty Pant Suit” Klobuchar.
She made a point that I’m certain the Dems will try to ream McConnell on. That was his refusal to hold a vote on Obama’s nominee, Merrick Garland, in early 2016. The claim by McConnell was that the next President should be the one putting forth the nominee.
McConnell will have a hard time explaining his change of mind - and the Dems will not let or the public forget it.
Whats that on my Diet Coke can?...
What Dem Senator, up for re-election this year, could be pressured by a reasonably moderate/conservative nomination?
Mark Warner (one of my scumbags) would lose 5 points, but it wouldn’t affect the result.
I agree, but this is election season. Like it or not, emotion plays a bigger role in vote getting.
I’m intrigued by a Garland nomination.
It would free up a position on the DC Circuit.
But, though he’s not as nutty as Ruthy was, he’s not very good.
Tom Cotton or the Lady who worked with and greatly admired Scalia. Can’t recall her name ...
Like I said Trump should nominate Garland
Cocaine Mitch already explained it tonight: Garland was blocked bc of split partisan control of the WH and Senate in 2016. Then, voters increased the GOP Senate majority in 2018 for this very reason.
Not as good a point as Dems think.
This Senate is held by the same Party as the Presidency.
If Obama’s Party had held the Senate they would have approved Garland.
