Game 1 is Saturday (7:30 p.m. ET; NBC, CBC, SN, TVAS) Two of the NHL's most successful Southern teams will be in the spotlight when the Tampa Bay Lightning play the Dallas Stars in the 2020 Stanley Cup Final.
The Stars, who relocated from Minnesota for the 1993-94 season, are the Western Conference champion for the third time since the move, the first time since 2000.
They won the Stanley Cup in 1999 against the Buffalo Sabres and lost to the New Jersey Devils in the Final the next season.
The Lightning, who joined the NHL as an expansion team for the 1992-93 season, are in the Stanley Cup Final for the third time, winning in 2004 against the Calgary Flames and losing to the Chicago Blackhawks in 2015.
"Obviously it's going to be a really good matchup, and we've got to find ways to slow their back end down and just play our kind of hockey," Lightning forward Pat Maroon said after a 2-1 overtime win against the New York Islanders in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Final on Thursday. "They're playing really good. They're playing with a lot of confidence right now, so it's going to be a fun series, so we're looking forward to it."
I said that I would not use the Hockey Ping List this playoff season and I will not.
That being said, if any of the other three sports (NBA, NFL, MLB) were to do as little as NHL has done to placate the BLM Nazis there would be Hell to pay. But I have no illusions about people posting comments on this thread.
FreeRepublic is an open forum that allows for debate and discourse and I would expect no less for this thread.
I love hockey. I love that they found a way to put the games on in a difficult time and the play has been pretty darn good (but not for my Penguins).
So enjoy! Or dont. Game on!
The lakes will start to freeze up anytime now.
Shouldn’t hockey be an outdoor sport?
Yawn. BLM/Antifa supporting sports leagues are so yesterday. Patriotic Americans have decided our Country and our Constitution are far far more important and will not give aid and comfort to the enemy.
..it will be a very good series IMO. Vegas is eliminated —it’s all good—drop the puck!
I agree. Kudos to the NHL for doing this the right way and giving us true playoff quality hockey.
F/NHL
An embarrassing moment.
Chicago lost to Vegas 4-1 and Edmonton didn’t even make the playoffs.
Karma is a bitch!
And if I’m not mistaken there isn’t a black player on either team.
Somewhat surprised that the Stars did as well as they did in the playoffs. IIRC, they lost their first 8 or 10 games of the season. Then, they sort of woke up.
Never thought Id see the NHL take a knee. Back in the day they played for the love of the game, the hit and the Cup. Not so much, now. Screw em. And this is from someone who used to buy special beer just for playoff time.
Go Stars!
Dallas against Tampa Bay playing for the NHL Stanley Cup in late summer. Thats just not right. It should be something like the Red Wongs against the Maple Leaves (sic) in late winter, when and where there could theoretically be ice nearby.
It’s being played in Edmonton.
Go Lightning...Now, for a trivia fact...Tampa Bay was the last game for the Hartford Whalers. And in the Mighty Duck movie, the kids were at a North Star Whalers game. DeplorableAmerican, was a season ticket holder for the Whalers...
Trivia Fact: Minnesota North Stars were merged with a failed NHL team. The Cleveland Barons, who were drawing in the low triple digits by the end.
Rooting for the Stars. I’m from the same small town as Stephen Johns. I would love to see him win a cup.
Its a shame he is injured. I like the way he plays.
