"Mayor WOOD, for example, placed before the eyes of the dazzled audience the figure of Commerce, surrounding it with a blaze of rhetorical and statistical fire-works, and traits of thorough reading, that must have misled an unprepared auditor into the belief that his Honor really knew something of the profound subject he was rashly discussing.
No mistake could have been greater." My goodness... Mayor Wood seems a lot like the current NYC mayor -- er... I mean one of 160 years in the future... ;-)
I only mean that Wood seems a little scatter-brained, not that he'd actually wish to destroy his own city.
When the secession crisis comes (says my crystal ball), Wood will actually try to join in seceding!
