But only 23% of the eighth graders in the D.C. public schools were proficient or better in reading in 2019, according to the department's National Assessment of Educational Progress, or NAEP, tests.

Which is why the left wingers in charge of our educational centers want to do away with pre, interim and post tests.
In 6th grade (1963-64) I turned in 50 book reports, most in the class. A few years later, I discovered cars and girls.
Most of my friends kids were reading at 3rd grade or better by the time they entered kindergarten. They were also proficient at math to 3rd or 4th grade
Level by first grade. By eight grade, if I had anything to do with it, they were proficient in algebra and geometry, and understood the basic concepts of calculus.. the reading took the investment of a few trips to the 99 cent store
23% proficient? So that would be “oh,see the kat...”
You can’t train the un-trainable.
The best way to control the slaves is to keep them ignorant.
My kids K-8 district has a budget of under $8,000 per student. Probably 95 percent of the 8th graders are proficient at reading.
Probably half of DC’s $30k/student is pure waste for overpaid useless non-teacher positions.
Think what a private school could provide for $30,000 a year ($600,000 fora class of 20).
If that were a private enterprise rather than a government school, it’d be shut down instantly and fined into oblivion.
Here is the plan.
1) Teach them to read and write simple English sentences.
2) Teach them to count up to 500, but no more.
3) Teach them to unconditionally obey their German Democratic masters.
My youngest daughter graduated this past year from parochial school. My tuition cost was $8400....
It is a “National School of Excellence”.
Her private HS this year is $12,500....and it’s graduates attend the finest colleges....
What the heck are the public schools spending the money on?
Just what Dewey and Margaret Sanger had in mind....
That is until the federal government and state government dummied down education (especially for the students that were excelling) with the Common Core Curriculum.
I have worked with some ignorant people, but if they are willing to apply themselves they can usually learn what they need to know to do the job well. But if they are not motivated to apply themselves (”the world owes me a living”) then they do not last, and for good reason.
All the kids need are ”Play and Talk” cds from homeschooling supplies. They listen to the cd while following in the book and they will learn how to read quickly. They will also learn grammar and spelling rules. They only need to do half a cd a day. I used them on my two boys and was very happy with the results. Instead the public schools have a stupid read by site system in which they don’t even know about syllables.

A Democrat would read this and they would find the solution obvious; not enough spending is being applied to the problem.
