“Although there are popular myths that taking fish oil lowers your cholesterol, it does not. It will lower your triglycerides, may modestly raise your HDL (which is a benefit), but can actually raise your LDL (bad) cholesterol, which is not a benefit.”

This is debunked regarding LDL as it’s measured today - until a detailed measurement is made, the number means nothing. Lowering triglycerides (fat in the blood) is a BIG DEAL.

I’ve been Taking one as long as I can remember, but the funny thing is, my wife bought a few big bottles of them that weren’t the burpless kind, And I couldn’t handle them.

I thought she throwing them all out, but I think what she does is mixes them in when I get low, because every once in a while I get one of them nasty things

I just eat Sardines. The cool thing is that they have such a short life that they don’t really get a chance to accumulate heavy metals. I get ‘em on sale at costco. And their shelf life is somewhere around 3 years.

I took fish oil for years and stopped a couple years ago. There is no difference in my blood readings from before and after.

In fact my triglycerides went down some. [But they vary, for sure.]

I’ve been taking fish oil for years but they were prescribed by my ophthalmologist for eye health, not for cholesterol. Primary doc is good with it as well for the triglyceride effects.

Fish burps, not that much but it’s no different than after a good dish of sushi which I love.

My dear sweet departed Mom made me take cod liver oil when I was a little kid in the 60s.

I think all that she accomplished was to ruin me on fish for the rest of my life.

A 9-month study was just completed with Vascepa. The results showed a 17% reduction of existing arterial plaque. Those on placebo showed no reduction in plaque and continued accumulation of new plaque. This drug was approved last year by the FDA to reduce cardiovascular events by 25%. Reoccurring events was reduced by 32%. Drop the Mic.

“A” cardiologist. ONE! BFG.

Besides, doctors don’t know SHITE about supplements. They are into “chemicals”/DRUGS. They don’t get “kick backs” from supplement companies.

Anecdotal, but I started taking cod liver oil when I was about fifteen. My dad died of a heart attack at 63. His dad died of a heart attack at 57. I'm in my late sixties, and have no blockage in any of my arteries.

Either fish oil or cod liver oil.

Fish oil may not be beneficial. Here’s an interesting site: https://brianpeskin.com

Fish oil supplements are a waste of money per my cardiologist. I stopped taking then a few years back and I am 16 yrs post CABG and my studies look great taking generic Creston and at least a glass of Cabernet a day.

I take an omega-3 supplement myself and recommend them to my patients, especially if they do not love to eat fish.

Why would anybody take fish oil supplements when they can eat actual fish?

I have a tin of the below everyday at lunch as well as fresh fish for dinner at least three times a week.
