Today it’s -2C with 98% humidity.
The article from Atlas Obscura on Oymyakon:
“With the ground in a state of permafrost, it takes several days to dig a grave, a strenuous task of lighting a bonfire for a few hours, then pushing the coals aside to dig a few inches, then starting another fire, and so on and so forth, until the hole is big enough to hold a coffin.”

Arctic and Australia dont mix well.
It’s a dry cold though
Well that was pretty fascinating.
I had pictured Western Russian features instead of Asian but that makes sense.
Glad the reporter didnt lose his nose.
Let’s see the ANTIFA scum try rioting every night for 100 straight nights over there for hours on end, like they have been doing in Portland.
They’d become a permanent part of the landscape after 24 hours.
Chuckle.
Yes, maybe the bone road needs repaving!
Amazing the places people choose to live.
The town is on the Kolyma Highway, the “Road of Bones.” It connects Magadan with Irkutsk and was built with Gulag slave labor.
Wow, I just can’t imagine living under those conditions.......I guess if that’s been the only life you have known, you don’t realize that there is a better life in a warmer climate......
A bud of mine from a former life worked on the Alaskan pipeline. He had some hellish stories to tell, but the pay was great and every two weeks, they flew you to Anchorage for five days of R & R. He earned more in a year than most people doing similar work earn in the lower 48 in three or four. And they don’t get 10 days twice a month for some deluxe R&R in Anchorage.
There’s gotta be tons of natural resources in Eastern Siberia though. Just the natural gas alone would power CA forever.
Natural gas is evil, so CA can’t use it.
Including plenty of closed prisons. I suspect Putin could underbid other options for housing the rioters. Antifa types could actually experience their desired philosophy first hand.
