A new study purporting to show that the novel coronavirus was manufactured in a Chinese lab was published by a pair of nonprofit groups linked to Steve Bannon, the former top Trump strategist now facing felony fraud charges.
The study, co-authored by a Chinese virologist who fled Hong Kong this year, claims that “laboratory manipulation is part of the history of SARS-CoV-2.” Its findings were quickly picked up by a handful of prominent news organizations such as the New York Post, which hyped the “explosive” allegations that run counter to virtually all existing scientific literature on the source of the virus.
The study is the work of the Rule of Law Society and the Rule of Law Foundation, sister nonprofit organizations that Bannon was instrumental in creating. According to documents posted on the Society’s website last year, he served as that group’s chair. The Bannon connection was first spotted by Kevin Bird, a Ph.D. candidate at Michigan State University, and shared by Carl Bergstrom, a biology professor at the University of Washington, who called the study “bizarre and unfounded.”
A search of Google Scholar and the Rule of Law Society and Rule of Law Foundation websites indicates that the organizations have not previously published scientific or medical research, and it’s unclear whether the paper received any peer review. It was posted on Monday on the website Zenodo, a publicly available repository of scientific and academic research to which anyone can upload their work.
Both of the nonprofits behind the study were formed in conjunction with exiled Chinese billionaire Guo Wengui, with whom Bannon has collaborated on a number of advocacy efforts targeting the Chinese government and business endeavors that have drawn the scrutiny of federal law enforcement officials.

"Gain-of-function" refers the genetic modification of a virus to increase its ability to infect human tissue. An article published in 2015 stirred debate about this risky line of research. See "Engineered bat virus stirs debate over risky research", published in Nature, a prestigious scientific journal. The research was conducted at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill ... despite the fact that the US government had imposed a ban on such research in 2014. Zhengli-Li Shi, the "bat lady" who headed up the Wuhan bio-lab, is listed along with UNC researchers as a co-author of the article.
The article notes that the gain-of-function research was funded by grants from the National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Disease (under Dr. Fauci's leadership), other NIH entities, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and USAID. In other words, your tax dollars were hard a work creating highly infectious, horseshoe-bat coronavirus chimera. Thanks, Dr. Fauci, and thank you, UNC Chapel Hill. After the GOF ban became effective, Fauci's NIAID and other US government agencies provided funding for such research at Dr. Zhengi-Li's lab in Wuhan. There are many published papers in the scientific literature that document horseshoe-bat coronavirus research that involves genetic manipulation.

Dr. Yan may not be “disappeared” by the CCP but their media henchmen in this country like Jack Dorsey and Mark Zuckerberg are doing the job for them by censoring her accounts.
The laws of natural selection are very clear. Just as scientists know that you can’t exceed the speed of light natural selection can not introduce “gain of function” capabilities targeted at the human species without first evolving through sub species. Dr. Yan and her collaborators have made a scientific case from their examination of the COVID genome that it is a “Frankenstein” of virus functions that were manipulated in a lab and not in nature.
Until real impartial virologists and institutions come out of their bunkers and begin to examine their evidence without fear of losing their jobs the attack job by the Daily Beast and other anti-Trump activists is irrelevant.

The interests of pretty much all of corporate media companies and universities align with the interests of the Chinese Communist Party. Even if they don’t have substantial direct commercial ties with the CCP, corporate media companies have affiliates are interested in the China market. Ditto universities. Vast numbers of high-calibre, full-fare tuition-paying students come from China. They contribute to the university’s genuine academic research while largely subsidizing the idiotic “grievance studies” departments that enable university administrators to feel virtuous.
It’s just as likely that Race Bannon instigated this as Steve Bannon.
Li-Meng Yan seems believable. But her story should be vetted thoroughly as if she is correct, its potentially an act of war by China, a shooting and bombs war.
Chinese don’t like to be embarrassed, to lose face, Trump was kicking their ass in trade war and it was badly affecting their economy. so, who knows?

I will agree. Their main source of scientific authority is Columbia University Virologist, Angela Rasmussen, who we now know is not unbiased herself ( an anti-Trumper and a globalist WHO supporter ).
Other than quoting Rasmussen to counter Dr. Li Ming-Yan, the rest of the story boils down to — because Steve Bannon, a right wing hack and a Trump apologist was behind the paper’s publication, it has no credibility ( by their lights ).

My take on her speaking is that she is very smart, likely a genius (PhD in microbio), and her English is far from perfect, but from experience, she knows she can be understood, and so speaks confidently, if not grammatically.
