Weak 1: Monday Night Football Ratings Crash by over 20% Amid Social Justice Protests

Against the backdrop of large-scale social justice demonstrations that included Black Lives Matter t-shirts, a giant social justice banner, an entire team standing for the black national anthem, and at least 20 players kneeling in protest during the actual national anthem, the Steelers-Giants MNF contest saw a 27% drop from last year.
The second game of the Monday Night Football double-header, saw another notable drop of 2.5 million viewers from last years mark.
These numbers are bad, needless to say. However, the full context of how bad they are cant be appreciated until you factor in two notable variables that have been included in this years rating formula which should be helping the NFL, but arent.
First, as Outkick reports, roughly 1.2 million fans arent attending the games live. Which, in theory, should add to the television numbers since it would be assumed that those fans would be watching at home. Second, speaking of the home, out-of-home viewers are now accounted for in the ratings process for the first time.

I stopped watching three years ago, but this year I have hard core NFL friends that have stopped watching as well. They have given up the fantasy bets and all.

Yes!
Truth be told, MNF has been declining for oh, twenty years at least. Add this year’s social activism by the league and maybe it’s the final nail.

The players have no idea what they are doing to their industry.
Here is a link where Anquan Boldin, a leader of the activists, explains why there is booing and resistance from fans. He thinks,
If everybody was on the same page, and wanted everybody to be treated equal, then we would all be in this fight together. But were not. Were not close to all being in this fight together.None of them understands its that their thoughts are simply not why we were tuning in. They earn lots of money because many people like to watch their skills. Utterly NOBODY is there to hear their thoughts.

There is as much chance of me watching an NFL game this year as there is of St. Louis or San Antonio winning the Super Bowl in 2021.

Sadly true, you’d think football was as hard to quit as heroin.
I gave it up cold turkey on the first knee.
Haven’t really missed it.

Considering it was on ESPN, the ratings should be worse than this.
