"There's a whole Twitter generation of people who hang around waiting to be offended."
Many of those involved in the Harry Potter franchise have spoken out against J.K. Rowlings series of transphobic statements dating back to last winter. Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, and Eddie Redmayne have all issued statements condemning the authors comments. However, it turns out she has at least one member of the Wizarding World in her corner, as Hagrid actor Robbie Coltrane has now come to her defense.
The latest round of controversy was sparked by tweets Rowling sent in June. After suggesting trans-affirming language removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives, she called gender reassignment a new kind of conversion therapy for gay people. She even wrote a 3,600-word essay in which she argued allowing transgender women into single-sex spaces would make natal girls and women less safe.
Speaking with Radio Times (via NME), Coltrane called out those who took offense to Rowlings remarks. I dont think what she said was offensive really, said Coltrane. I dont know why but theres a whole Twitter generation of people who hang around waiting to be offended.
Coltrane went on to criticize the general idea of people expressing outrage online: They wouldnt have won the war, would they? Thats me talking like a grumpy old man, but you just think, Oh, get over yourself. Wise up, stand up straight and carry on. For point of fact, the grumpy 70-year-old was born in 1950, five years after the war was won.
Still, Coltrane was aware his comments would draw the controversy they clearly have, and he refrained from saying anything further. I dont want to get involved in all of that because of all the hate mail and all that shit, which I dont need at my time of life, he concluded.
Coltranes interview was published just hours after it was revealed that the antagonist in Rowlings new book is a cis male serial killer who cross-dresses to get close to his female victims. Entitled Troubled Blood, the 900-page mystery novel is being released under Rowlings masculine pseudonym, Robert Galbraith. Last month, Rowling returned her Robert F Kennedy Humans Rights award after the organization denounced her transphobia.
Transphobic, my butt.
I think Rowling is a loonie lefty, but she was just stating the obvious. Cutting off your balls doesn’t magically turn you into a “woman”.
I cant say it better than you did.
But could Harry Potter magically turn you into a woman?” (I don’t know, never read the books, or seen the movies)
They can change by taking the Polyjuice Potion...
It isn’t a “phobia” to call crazy “crazy”, perverted “perverted” or anything like that.
We simply should not allow either the crazy or the perverted to have a say to determine what is normal.
What truly confounds me about all that crap is why the Left (and unfortunately more and more people every day) somehow feel that it is a MUST everyone agrees. Why do I have to accept transgenders as a distinct sex? Why should I accept homosexuality is ok? That is thought policing, and its a real slippery slope because it can easily be expanded far beyond that. It is actually a critically dangerous development that has only been gaining momentum over the last decade or two, and if you dont think its an issue have a chat with your children. I can bet that most - obviously not all, but most - will be substantially more liberal than you are. And that is in conservative households!
Rowling once turned me into a Newt. Then I found myself sitting next to Nutty Piglousy. Eeeeew!
But I got better. :)
I’m not vomitphobic — it naturally disgusts me.
I’m not tornadophobic — they naturally frighten me.
I’n not beephobic — they naturally cause me to avoid them.
I’m not transphobic — their perversity naturally annoys me.
J.K. Rowling is a leftist - but she made those characters ... the actors who played them and were made the successes that they are now — have no say in what she thinks... WHO CARES at the end of the day what her or anyone’s opinion is on the matter ... just because one is a success doesn’t mean we should listen to the inner ramblings of what they believe... as fro that - no one should take what I’m saying to heart either - we all have opinions that drive our decisions — Hollywierd thinks they should be at the helm of it all.
Watch lots of Brit shows on the telly. Robbie Coltrane was great in a coppers show I use to watch.
***Cutting off your balls doesnt magically turn you into a woman.***
But in the ancient days it did qualify you to wear woman’s clothes and become a priest of Attis, Adonis, Osiris or Tammuz.
Frazier’s THE GOLDEN BOUGH has a interesting and funny passage on this.
Ever see this? He was in it with Emma Thompson long before Harry Potter;

He starred in “The Pope Must Diet” (they added the ‘t’ to make it ‘diet’ after the movie came out originally)
When he opined, I dont think what she said was offensive really, said Coltrane. I dont know why but theres a whole Twitter generation of people who hang around waiting to be offended. a huge grin formed on my face.
Of course he and I are close to the same age.
Biologyphobic?
I think they only added that in the United States?
Yes. He is a bit of a lefty. Nickname was Robbie Red.
