Trump won by 15%! Upstate NY. Claudia Tenney lost by less than 1%(.08). We should win it back but at the same time we should realize the voters are fickle and we need to be on our toes. We'll get it back in spite of ourselves. Thank POTUS.
The conservative anti-RINO rebellion of 2018. Hopefully some RINOs are now a bit more woke and a bit more careful.
My hope is you’re right.
Remember the Russia investigation was still going at this time.
Now it’s completely shown to be a lie.
Anti-Trump RINOs, ignorant suburban women, and unchecked fraud in 2018.
One reason republicans lose these close ones is when republicans are disgusted by the loser/RINO thing, they stay home. Democrats on the other hand have no standards and will vote for any pos loser with a D after his name.
Magic mail votes could affect many tight races. We need to create a vote security method.
The time for electoral purity is the primary. In the general, you vote party
I live not too far from there. NY-22 is typical Upstate NY. Mostly rural, while the population centers of Utica and Rome are small/shrinking and in theory, even those should go Republican.
I liken much of Upstate NY to the former Eastern Europe. People have been brought up and trained with socialism, and the control (and expectation) of government is everywhere - but on the other hand, theyve been living in hollowed-out economies for decades, where their children must flee West for opportunity. It creates a lot of cognitive dissonance.
How did we lose this one depends on what you mean by we.
Trump is not a Republican. He was elected because he roused lots of white Democrats to vote for him. Those people hate actual Republicans worse than they hate anything.
He believed (falsely, as it turns out) that by beating 16 actual Republicans with Republican voters that he has accomplished some sort of takeover, and that Ryan and the others would be loyal soldiers.
So, any Republican who has ever given a hint of keeping the never Trump option open is destined to lose.
18 was the year the rats started the harvesting and it paid off BIG. 18 was the test run for 20.
Any polls on this district?
10 responses-getting better. This is the nuts and bolts in the engine room where the work gets done. Kicking out the RINO’s in the senate may not work unfortunately. Still this series is about winnable house seats we need to take back.
Will it be "lather, rinse, and repeat" in 2020? Especially the first and last items.
McConnell is trying to give away the Senate by telling Senators to distance themselves from President Trump.
I don't think Trump ever believed that.
He was originally a potential Reform Party candidate back in 2000, but gave up on that idea because he knew that a third-party candidate had no chance of winning a presidential election. So he sat in wait until the opportunity presented itself to hijack one of the two major parties for his own purpose. That's exactly what he did in 2016, and it was really only successful because of two things: (1) he chose the Republican Party, which had an open field of many candidates, and (2) the Republican front-runner that time was an @sshole named "Bush" whose mere presence in the race exposed the national GOP as a bunch of tone-deaf, incompetent frauds.
What Trump did on a national scale is really no different than what Michael Bloomberg did in New York City in 2001. Bloomberg knew there wasn't a chance in hell his success would ever translate into meaningful changes on the GOP political scene in New York.
He is no better than a demorat. In fact he just may be a demorat.
Yes, I think team Trump did a better job handling fraud in 2016. 2018 and it is looking like 2020 out of control on that front.
Ignorant suburban women and anti-Trump RINOs are all around me—though living in a Blue State there’s not much hope here anyway...
This is my district. The district covers a lot of ground, from Utica/Rome to Cortland and Binghamton. The seat was held by RINO Shelly Bohelert from 1983-2007. Then it ping ponged back and forth with Republicans and democrats. Its probably going to be a close race.
