Browns’ Baker Mayfield to stand for national anthem after backlash

Baker Mayfield planned to make a stand. Instead, he’ll stand.

After watching the Chiefs and Texans receive backlash from the Kansas City crowd for their “show of unity” prior to Thursday’s game, Mayfield has decided he will stand for the national anthem before Sunday’s game against the Ravens after the Browns quarterback previously said he would “absolutely” kneel during the song. Mayfield is a member of the team’s 11-player social justice committee.

“After reading many letters and messages… I have been showed [sic] that a gesture such as kneeling will only create more division or discussion about the gesture, rather than be a solution towards our country’s problem at hand,” Mayfield wrote Saturday on Twitter.

“member of the team’s 11-player social justice committee”

The committee will now vote to let his knees be taken out in the next game.

It is starting to dawn on some of them that the cash register is going to be unemployed if they keep it up.

And this is controversial. Honk honk!!

I would say he won’t get any blocking because of this, but he plays for the Browns, so there won’t be a noticeable drop-off.

...the team’s 11-player social justice committee.

That just says it all right there. Talk about a distraction from your core mission!

I'd be a LOT more impressed if these players would go en masse into ghettos and help people with cleaning the neighborhood, taking the elderly to church, tutoring kids, delivering food, contributing clothing, teaching kids how to play sports, teaching kids good sportsmanship.

Whoa! Back the truck up, Jake! Scratch that last one!

[[[Mayfield is a member of the team’s 11-player social justice committee.]]]

I could picture the likes of Vince Lombardi or Parcells putting up with that BS.

The players are going to mostly quit kneeling and the broadcasters will turn the entire game into a “social justice” platform. At least until the election.

As a kid I met Vince Lombardi when he spoke at a Boy Scouts father-son dinner. It was the golden age of the Green Bay Packers.

Lombardi would have charged like a raging bull at the current madness.

Met Curly Lambeau, too. Wish I had met Ray Nitschke.
