The main character of the movie, Amy, eventually realizes at the end of the dance competition that the allure she had for the hypersexual hip hop dance culture has corrupted her into harming her friend Yasmine and is a bad influence on her true goodness. She is seen at the end returning to her family and having young girl fun jump roping with friends.
The message of the movie is not to promote the hypersexual hip hop culture but to show young girls that it is a false path to self realization and becoming a woman even if it temporarily gives them a narcistic sense of power.
I think most grown women have had to cope with this coming of age understanding with their sexual nature and cultural roles. This film could be used as a teaching experience if it is seen for what it is and not what the media is trying to make it.
The vitriolic condemnation from many seems to be based on stereotypic notions of what the “societally correct” response should be and not on a deeper understanding of the clear and unambiguous moral message of the film.
How is it a denouncement of the sexualization of children? Does anyone involved face any repercussions for their actions? A couple booed the kids during the dance and the main character in the end decides she still wants to be a child. Do any adults who exploit the kids suffer any?

Why do little boys play army or laser tag and practice “killing” each other? They have no more understanding of the reality of death on a battlefield than these little girls do about real sexual relationships. They are mimicking the dance moves of their pop idols because 1) dancing is fun and, 2) it drives their parents crazy.
Comparing this to a gymnast on a balance beam is ludicrous! If you are looking at the crotch of little girls on a balance beam you have a real problem. The more you try to explain your way out of this the more you show that you’re creepy. Would you be happy to let your granddaughter “dance” like this? Instead of fish on your FR page, those photos should have a warning sign above them stating that children should stay away from the creepy old guy - far away. You are disgusting!!!
It’s impossible to talk sense to someone like you. Are you related to Jeffrey Epstein by any chance? I’m not an acrobatics fan, but what little I have seen, I don’t remember the camera focusing in six inches from a child’s butt while their thrusting their pelvises erotically. And focusing in on their crotches with their legs spread wide open. You have a sick mind and I wouldn’t let my children near you.

I am truly trying to gather information, but given the reports I have seen, I do not plan to watch this movie since it does sound like child porn to me. It is true that those who have not seen it don’t have all the facts, so I’d appreciate it if you’d address some specifics that are bothering me.
It has been reported that in this movie pre-teen girls imitate the sexualized dances they see in videos, including imitating sex acts. It is also reported that one of the girls exposes her breasts during a dance.
Are these scenes actually in the movie?
If so, it would meet my personal criteria for child porn, and unless Netflix does some serious damage control, my subscription ends.
Another question I have is why the children needed to be pre-teen. Would the story of defying muslim oppression and chasing your dream of being a sexually provocative dancer (as opposed to a ballerina or other more traditional dancer) not have been more appropriate to girls over 18?

The movie portrayed what our youth is exposed to everyday in social media. How youngsters look up to the hip hop culture and even if brought up in a conservative home, wanting to fit in with the cool kids. Ow wow, I wanna be like brittany or miley cyrus and have you seen the kardashians and how they dress.So yes, that’s why they used 11 year olds I fast forwarded through the movie, stopped and listed to the dialogue to get the gist of the movie.

Can you not carry on a conversation about networks sexualizing young girl like forever? Remember the old coppertone billboards from 50-60 years ago. This is nothing new but now they are targeting young children and how they are being pressured into accepting it as normal.

To tell ya the truth, I have quit watching any of it for about 20 years now because everything in sports is being sexualized.Even the pelathon commercials. The one where the girl on her bike watching the guy on his bike and at the end they both climax, that’s the crap our kids are seeing.
You don’t need child porn to do that. Mass public demonstrations in Muslim capitol cities all over the world would do a lot more.
