Cruise Line CEO Says “The Cruise Industry is Close to Devastation” in Miami-Dade Meeting
Cruise Hive ^ | Sept. 10, 2020 | Emrys Thakkar

Posted on 09/11/2020 10:58:56 AM PDT by Capt. Tom

In a meeting with the Miami-Dade County Tourism and the Ports Committee and cruise lines, CEO’s and Miami-Dade leaders have said the industry is ready to resume operations. There is a push for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) not to extend the “No Sail Order” in the U.S which is currently in place through September 30, 2020.

So all the major players in the U.S. had their say and there was definitely a trend that the cruise industry was ready to make a return. It was mainly a message to the CDC to say health measures are just about in place for U.S. cruises and by extending the suspension even further it will not just impact the cruise lines but local businesses, crew members around the world, and more. The impact will be huge.

One of the most impactful statements was from Frank Del Rio of NCL who spoke from the heart as a local Miami citizen. He started by saying that “the cruise industry is close to devastation” and the market cap of the three public companies had dropped by almost $50 billion.

He went on to say it was a shame the new NCL terminal at PortMiami was not welcoming passengers now that it has been completed. New health measures are being finalized and the NCL along with Royal Caribbean will submit their new protocols in a week to 10 days to the CDC. The CDC has already opened up for public comments about the current cruise situation and that will come to a close on September 21. However, there is the worry that it may take weeks more to assess the public comments and make a decision. This could lead to a further suspension on operations in the U.S.

As we have discussed on previous threads about or CDC and Cruise lines to me a key sentence in the above excerpt which is: However, there is the worry that it may take weeks more to assess the public comments and make a decision. This could lead to a further suspension on operations in the U.S.

This means our, IMHO, inept , incompetent ,CDC which wants to curtail Cruising, can further deliver that industry another blow by more extensions, to drive the Cruise Industry into more debt. (Don't forget that besides their own money, these Cruise Lines are running their businesses on BILLIONS of borrowed money.)

We should know the answer from the CDC in a few weeks.-Tom

Hey, figure it out, they don’t care. I swear the only one who does care is President Trump. He’s fighting the whole deep state to keep us from becoming another Marxist evil pit.

Ocean shipping rates, on the other hand, seem to be doing quite well.

Here is the link to the information the CDC is publicizing for comments. Some of them are absolutely stupid. For example:

“What would be the anticipated financial cost of testing all passengers and crew?” How would a normal citizen know that?

“Because reports of illness may lead to restrictions on crew activities, how should cruise ship operators encourage crew members to report mild symptoms of COVID-like illness to medical personnel?” Uh...by talking to the chief medical officer on the ship???

“To what extent and for how long should cruise ship operators reduce passenger capacity?” Hm...a week. No...3.5 weeks. Wait! How about 1.65324 months?

https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2020/07/21/2020-15812/request-for-information-related-to-cruise-ship-planning-and-infrastructure-resumption-of-passenger

No wonder things are such a mess when people like this are in power. Morons.

Quick everyone, sign up for a cruise!

Just be aware that if anyone gets sick it may be a while before you get off that ship.

They’re screwed seven ways from Sunday.

Right-and besides, who ever said the ‘leisure industry’ is an essential industry?

I mean, what are they making? No widgets...nothing. People who are taxed to the point of castration (so OTHERS can have a life of ease) don’t have any discretionary income for ‘leisure’.
