“following the death of George Floyd, a Minneapolis man killed by police.”
I guess we don’t need to bother with a trial.
I’m beginning to think we have become to stupid to survive.
“Controversially?” Since when has a state name been controversial?
I, for one, am super ticked off at the name Illinois. I grew up in Des Plaines, a suburb of Chicago.
So yeah, I’m mad at Illinois and Chicago and even Des Plaines.
/silliness
This is beyond ridiculous.
Cant wait till we watch the Nativeamericanapolis 500 next year.
Huh?
They had the bugler play ‘My Old Kentucky Home’ but did NOT have the lyrics on the screen as they have in years past, and it was also preceded by a moment of silence. Not seeing any fans in attendance singing along with it was like a dagger to the heart.
I am seething over the betrayal even by my beloved horse-racing.
I checked it out the other week and found astronaut (whom I generally respect) has allowed his tracks to bow to BLM and white-shame us.
I didnt watch one thing of Derby, and it wasnt because COVID screwed up the schedule.
Same with my native Preakness. They can KMA.
I will be composing a nice letter to the MJC before long.
I wish the fans would just sing it anyway. Loudly!!
Ping for you, racing comrade.
"Maryland, My Maryland" was adopted as the State song in 1939 (Chapter 451, Acts of 1939; Code General Provisions Article, sec. 7-318).
The nine-stanza poem, "Maryland, My Maryland," was written by James Ryder Randall in April 1861. A native of Maryland, Randall was teaching in Louisiana in the early days of the Civil War, and he was outraged at the news of Union troops being marched through Baltimore. The poem articulated Randall's Confederate sympathies. Set to the traditional tune of "Lauriger Horatius" ("O, Tannenbaum"), the song achieved wide popularity in Maryland and throughout the South.
Maryland, My Maryland
I
The despot's heel is on thy shore,
Maryland!
His torch is at thy temple door,
Maryland!
Avenge the patriotic gore
That flecked the streets of Baltimore,
And be the battle queen of yore,
Maryland! My Maryland!
II
Hark to an exiled son's appeal,
Maryland!
My Mother State! to thee I kneel,
Maryland!
For life or death, for woe or weal,
Thy peerless chivalry reveal,
And gird thy beauteous limbs with steel,
Maryland! My Maryland!
III
Thou wilt not cower in the dust,
Maryland!
Thy beaming sword shall never rust,
Maryland!
Remember Carroll's sacred trust,
Remember Howard's warlike thrust,-
And all thy slumberers with the just,
Maryland! My Maryland!
IV
Come! 'tis the red dawn of the day,
Maryland!
Come with thy panoplied array,
Maryland!
With Ringgold's spirit for the fray,
With Watson's blood at Monterey,
With fearless Lowe and dashing May,
Maryland! My Maryland!
V
Come! for thy shield is bright and strong,
Maryland!
Come! for thy dalliance does thee wrong,
Maryland!
Come to thine own anointed throng,
Stalking with Liberty along,
And sing thy dauntless slogan song,
Maryland! My Maryland!
VI
Dear Mother! burst the tyrant's chain,
Maryland!
Virginia should not call in vain,
Maryland!
She meets her sisters on the plain-
Sic semper! 'tis the proud refrain
That baffles minions back amain,
Maryland!
Arise in majesty again,
Maryland! My Maryland!
VII
I see the blush upon thy cheek,
Maryland!
For thou wast ever bravely meek,
Maryland!
But lo! there surges forth a shriek,
From hill to hill, from creek to creek,
Potomac calls to Chesapeake,
Maryland! My Maryland!
VIII
Thou wilt not yield the Vandal toll,
Maryland!
Thou wilt not crook to his control,
Maryland!
Better the fire upon thee roll, Better the shot, the blade, the bowl,
Than crucifixion of the Soul,
Maryland! My Maryland!
IX
I hear the distant thunder-hum,
Maryland!
The Old Line bugle, fife, and drum,
Maryland!
She is not dead, nor deaf, nor dumb-
Huzza! She spurns the Northern scum!
She breathes! She burns! She'll come! She'll come!
Maryland! My Maryland!
Another ‘And you snatch your rattling last breaths, with deep-sea diver sounds’ Maryland death knell ping. Fargin’ sneaky bastages.
Don’t worry about this cowardly act. No sane white person will go to the track at Pimlico unless they are packing.
Used to be a nice, safe area. My girlfriend lived directly across the street from it and we would wander over and watch them exercise the horses.
Today it is a drug-dealing and crime center area (Belvedere and Pimlico Avenue area). No sane white person would be caught there on a good day. The blacks ruined the area decades ago. Only the width of Northern Parkway saved the areas above it on Park Heights Avenue (Pimlico Jr. High, the Jewish Communist Center, several synagogues and a church, old age homes).
We have given up on visiting Baltimore. I was born and raised there, knew NW Baltimore like the back of my hand, and never had any problems except for a few passing thru crackers/hillbilly anti-semites from Hamilton/Hampden.
It used to be safe. Now you risk your life living there, even in the good or once good areas. Been reading that black crime is soaring along Liberty Heights Avenue/Liberty Road, and on parallel Reisterstown Road. It ain’t the Amish who are doing it.
I feel badly for the decent black families who moved out into those areas trying to escape North Avenue crime. It followed them like tar on a shoe.
