The 92nd Academy Awards show was one of the last big events in 2020 before life stopped for the Wuhan Virus. If people had known about a future of masks and isolation, maybe more Americans would have watched than the record low of 23.6 million viewers. But then again, perhaps not, given that winners cannot seem to stop lecturing Americans for being hate-filled, racist, misogynistic yutzes.
The smart thing for the Academy to do in the face of a seemingly unstoppable ratings hemorrhage would be to make the Oscar show more friendly to the viewers. The Academy could nominate movies people like to watch and then limit the speeches to conform to the old rule that, “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.” Instead, as part of its “Academy Aperture 2025” initiative, the Academy has opted to make the nominations even more politically correct, promising Americans that future films will showcase stifling politically-correct orthodoxy.
On Tuesday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences put out a press release announcing all of its impossibly woke requirements for movies beginning in 2022 (meaning films produced in 2021).
The press release has created four “standards”:
Under each standard, the Academy lists a variety of mix-and-match quotas that must be met for a specific standard to qualify for Oscar consideration. For example, lead actors must include one of every victim-identity race or ethnicity group. Ensembles must include gay people and handicapped people. Storylines have to touch upon intersectionality, victim-identity issues. Apprenticeships and internships must have all the underrepresented people represented. Thirty percent of a film’s crew has to meet victim-centric intersectionality metrics.

Interesting in an exotic world I no longer plan to visit manner. There was a time I could name the last best picture winner and maybe some of the other award winners but no longer.
Liberals have defined good, empathy, kindness as “liberal”.
This is a moral peacocking display, intended to prove how good they are and how much better they are than the rest of us.
I wonder what the Oscars are going to look like in early 2021, for awards given to movies released in 2020.
Relatively few movies were released in 2020 because of the virus. At least that is true of movies that are released in theaters. Do direct-to-video sites such as Netflix films count for the Oscars?

The last time I saw those awards was at least 20 years ago. One thing I find funny about the “wokeness” is the awarding to crap movies strictly due to “wokeness”. The glaring example would be Moonlight. Wins an oscar and is so good that it is almost instantly available for free on Amazon Prime.

Have they made any movies that aren’t sjw, gay, animated, retreads,or super heroes in the last 10 years?
The impression I got about the Oscars is that they nominate arthouse type movies, which didn’t have wide circulation or wide appeal.
I know I don’t keep up with popular culture that much. But in recent years some movies nominated for Oscars I had never even heard of. I’m sure I’m not the only one. And I think this would affect the ratings for the Oscar telecast.
How many people want to sit through a 4-Hour award show to see what movie they never heard of , beat out another movie they never heard of for an award?
I’m going to be not watching the Oscar awards even more enthusiastically than ever.
I think it depends on the category but for best picture there was a time the movie had to be released in a theatre in the LA area in the year the award was for. How it will go this year who knows.
This just make the Oscars worthless for deciding what movie to view.
Classifying themselves as non essential
In other words, Black Panther should have received every Oscar they gave out that year.
The Oscars should be recycled based on diversity. They need to be returned every year based on the new liberal requirements.
Yeah I think you have the trend exactly as it is now. There was a time popular movies sometimes won like Titanic. Also a few years ago they increased the number of movies nominated from 5 to 10 or 9 which to me made the category unwieldy. Since 2014 the AAs ratings have been in to borrow a term mostly declining.

I’ve seen it, not sure I “got it.” I don’t like the whole ww2/holocaust through a child’s eyes thing, but it was worth watching.
Who cares.
