HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – A former high school Spanish teacher from Huntington was sentenced to federal prison for traveling across state lines to have sex with one of her students and selling Adderall, announced United States Attorney Mike Stuart. Amy Adkins, 30, was sentenced to five years in prison for travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct and distribution of Adderall. Adkins also was ordered to complete 20 years of supervised release and to register as a sex offender.
“Adkins abused her position of authority as a teacher to betray the trust of this student and his family,” said United States Attorney Mike Stuart. “Parents expect their kids to be safe from predatory behavior at school, not preyed upon.”
Adkins previously admitted that while she was a Spanish teacher at Fairland High School in Proctorville, Ohio during the 2017 to 2018 academic year, she communicated frequently with one of her young male students on social media. This student was under 16 years old at the time. On April 7, 2018, Adkins admitted that she drove from her home in Huntington to Proctorville, where she picked up her underage student and brought him back to Huntington with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct. Ultimately, Adkins had sex with the victim that day at her home in Huntington.
In addition to traveling with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, Adkins admitted that from September 2017 to May 2018 she frequently sold a portion of her Adderall prescription to her friends and acquaintances. Specifically, Adkins admitted that she sold one close friend five pills of Adderall on March 9, 2018. Adderall is a Schedule II controlled substance.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the West Virginia State Police and the Lawrence County, Ohio Department of Job and Family Services conducted the investigation.
United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers imposed the sentence. Assistant United States Attorney Kristin F. Scott handled the prosecution.
The case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative of the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorney’s Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute those who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims. Not bad. Google image with name.
If she had laid this kid on the Ohio side of the river, what would the penalty have been I wonder?
The state lines is a weird quirk of our law that should be addressed.
“Female, 30-year old drug pushing pervert employed as a teacher...*smh*”
I’m a little shocked by all the female predators. Looking back, however, I have learned that many women at my son’s elementary school were also perverts.
One married one of her son’s friends (started dating Sr in high school - but knew him as a child), another ended up divorcing husband and living with son of her best friend who she knew since early childhood), two others would wear revealing clothing, no underwear, no bras and see through dresses and invite all the boys over in middle school.
Always thought they were just ditzy. I guess I was naive.
Something monstrous has been growing in the U.S. women or the U.S. women’s psyche and/or culture; never have we had so many female pedophiles, and so brazen as well.
I see it as all part of the spiritual jump in the “feminist” movement that started taking place decades after women gained the vote - in the “cultural revolution” that began in the 60s and continued in the 70s.
In short, what first animated the early feminist movement, besides women’s suffrage, was to make men stop and or pay for their debauchery - leaving a woman they impregnated to care for THEIR child alone; treating women just for their sexual possibilities and nothing else, then being part of chastising such women as “loose” when that condition usually started with a man that treated them as mere plaything. In other words, part of the feminist movement was to take a stand against immoral behavior of some men, which the culture and society was not doing enough to correct.
But as that movement went through the 60s and 70s it morphed into a desire to be as debauched as it once accused men of doing, and get away with it. With abortion and the pill, intent to marry and having children could be divorced completely from sex - just like a debauched man, and the woman could get protection from the consequences. At last “free sex” for women without worry or concern.
Then, it seems like it was the 90s, it morphed some more. More women wanted the thrill of pursuing a newly post-pubescent young male; like it was said many men fantasized over as to young females. And not just fantasize, but act on.
The feminist movement has progressed from being a movement against the worst in men to wanting to be just like the worst in men.
The thing is, most of these female predators are as innocent looking and wholesome as can be. You’d never suspect them Especially this one.
That last line’s a good summary.
She should have gotten a medical degree in psychiatry. Then she could do these things all she wants. Just say the victims are mentally ill. If the victims become too noisy just electroshock or lobotomize them.
Shouldn’t ALL teachers be labeled as perverted, drug dealing, pedophiles. Why should teachers be treated differently then cops?
Sure, no problem. Well eliminate federalism and all be governed by the standards of NY or CA
The 1965 Civil Rights Act destroyed US schools.
How are we expected to determine guilty or not guilt without evidence?
Post the pic please.
Some things are federal offenses whether you cross a state line or not.
I think sexual abuse of a minor ought to fall into that category.
Or are you waiting for California to issue them a $50 fine and community service?
Not only is this perp a perv but she’s pretty stupid for going over that bridge.
