The NBA’s TV ratings have been dropping ever since the league returned to action from its brief suspension of play. There has been a lot of conjecture regarding the cause, with little evidence offered either way.
Some have pointed to changing consumer habits as to why the numbers are plummeting, while others maintain it has to do with the NBA’s increased politicization.
Last week, a Harris Poll aimed to get to the root of the issue. The agency reached out to almost 2,000 people and gave them 10 choices to select from on why they are watching less NBA action.
Respondents were permitted to choose more than one answer.

Watching 10 BLM thugs dribble a ball and make a basket is not my idea of a all American sport.
Things ain’t looking good for the NBA when a playoff game attracts a smaller audience than a rerun of 60 Minutes.
OTOH, I bet the IndyCar Series would kill for the lousy numbers the NBA is pulling...

I honestly think the NBA ratings are way down simply because people aren’t used to watching NBA games in August. MLB would have the same problem if they played the World Series in February.

What they aren’t telling you here, and advertizers will find out, are the demographics of those who stay vs. those who leave. The NBA will be made thoroughly familiar with this at network contract renewal time.

It’s killing me that the BLM has even INFECTED my Nascar races. I don’t watch the other sports + haven’t for years, Baseball, Basketball + Football certainly have earned everything that’s coming to them. Less attendance is a real positive imo. They’ve all Jumped the Shark in our home, years ago.

The NFL opens its season Thursday night with Kansas City versus Houston and a full slate on Sunday and Monday. There were some college games this weekend and there will be others now.

What I expect is a Great Reset on salaries, ticket prices, consession prices, parking prices, etc.
The league has become too ghetto. Poor sportsmanship. Tattoos. Thuggish behavior. Whites and affluent blacks tuning out.
Yes they are all terrified. They know they can go on one jag of honesty... but they will be cleaning out their offices immediately afterwards.
