Zozobra went up in flames Friday night at Fort Marcy Park in Santa Fe.
The event did not have spectators because of a ban on mass gatherings due to COVID-19.
Zozobra, which took nearly four months to construct, burned in a matter of minutes.
Officials said they had thousands of people submit their grievances to burn along with Zozobra.
Zozobra goes up in flames in Santa Fe This was the 96th burning of Zozobra, also known as Old Man Gloom.
“...also known as Old Man Gloom.”
For some reason Biden comes to mind.
Cmon man.
So THAT is the cause of global warming!
Heathens.
There must be something in the air but between Sante Fe and Taos there are probably more frankly insane people per capita than just about anywhere else.
Santa Fe was a great place to grow up in the 1950s/early 60s.
As a cub scout I danced around Zozobra, led by Jacques Cartier, the fire dancer. We were right under old man gloom, then moved back just aways as it was lit. History here: https://burnzozobra.com/all-about-zozobra/
I still grow my own heritage pueblo green chilis and roast them to get 15-20 lbs worth for my yearly supply.
My dad was born in Texico, NM and was a native because he was born in the front bedroom. Uncle Bill was a Texan because he was born in the back bedroom.
Along with Louisiana, New Mexico history and culture offers the sharpest contrast to Anglo and other European settlement.
Are you a junkie? On crack?
Vince Foster wasn’t in attendance.
What was Espanola like in the 50’s-60’s? Was it as much of a timewarp kind of town as it has been during all my time there (70’s-80’s)?
My Uncle Bill lived in Espanola. Nice, normal Hispanic town growing up. Though in northern NM they could be a little rough.
Growing up I fished every native trout stream in northern NM. Went everywhere. No problems. My best friends were Hispanic and Indian. I am Anglo. My best teacher, and godfather to my first son, was a Hispanic scholar with a research center in Truchas.
Basically post WWII NM up until to 70s was a whole different place, politically/ culturally than after. It was a different world.
On a side note, my great grandfather, who lived near Las Vegas, NM., would lend his hunting hounds to Teddy Roosevelt during the Rough Rider reunions there.
A very good film of what I am talking about is Red Sky in the Morning with
Richard Thomas (John boy) if you can find it.

The novel the movie was based on:
Track of the Moon Beast
THAT is a Sasquatch chasing those braves.
THAT is a Sasquatch chasing those braves.
BS. That’s Moochelle.
I used to like Santa Fe. The the filthy kalifornians moved in.
I remember driving north on I-25 and seeing crowds of people traipsing along the side of the road.
It is very hard for traditional yankees to understand authentic New Mexican culture and cuisine. It is just so different. Unfortunately thats what attracted the newcomers from Ca. Etc who have destroyed what they were attracted to.
My mom was from NJ. She met my dad in Santa Fe, who was recovering as a Bataan Death March 4 year POW survivor. She hated it at first. Adapted, and became thoroughly New Mexican. Was a Great New Mexican cook. When my wife makes chicken chili cheese enchiladas with her recipe, I just take a bite, close my eyes, and I am home.
...and underneath the ashes, they found another dead Clinton lawyer.
