Something happened here today, and I thought it might be useful to start a thread on individuals' experiences with mail-in voting.
We received information in the mail today about how to receive a mail-in ballot. The return address indicates that the letters were sent by our County Board of Elections.
However, we also received an extra one - for a man who lived here before we did, and whose mail we've received before.
The problem is, we've been here almost 14 years; he's been gone at least that long, if not longer.
I was pleased to see that I have to actually REQUEST a mail-in ballot - I was afraid that they were just going to send them out willy-nilly to every registered voter.
But why did I receive one for a long-gone former tenant? From what rolls are they taking these names and addresses? If they are taking them from 'registered voter' records, how often do they update those?
I would like to see posted others' similar experiences with this whole new 'system' - especially if you live in Maryland.
(We actually intend to vote in person. There has been some indication that we may have to do that at another location than our usual community one, but the last we heard, the plans were still to make it possible to do so.)

So far I only got an application for the NY State Primary, which was June 23rd. Cuomo had tried to get the primary cancelled, but a Judge told him it had to take place on the planned date. I called the County Clerk’s Office to make sure the polls would be open that day...they were, so I tore the application up. The primary was a big cluster*ck. It took weeks to find out who won in some elections, and there were at least 84,000 ballots that were disqualified. The primary opponent of Carolyn Maloney filed a lawsuit, and a Judge ordered all the disqualified ballots be counted. I think that decision is being appealed, and that issue is still up in the air.
I hope you shredded it first
This is dreadful
More opportunities for fraud ... more than usual. All these extra apps floating around with names of inactive voters. So easy to fill out fraudulently and have ballots sent.
Use your imagination
Shred it.
The stranger’s
Expect a whole lot of contention and litigation in the next general election.
Is that legal?
I’ve always understood that we had a legal obligation to ‘return to sender’, so that’s what I’ve always done.
Are your kids on the registered voter rolls under their new addresses? Or are they allowed to vote without proof of residency?
Everyone should save them and NOT throw them away. Theres no telling what might happen next. They may come in handy.
Maybe.
First class mail or bulk mailing?
This is how the politicos at town hall discover who is on the list that’s not a real voter. Now somebody may try to cast his ballot.
When I vote, I always look at the list to see if anybody else is registered at my address.
You could try to raise a stink to get him off the list. You’ll get an education on how hard it is to do that.
It says ‘Presorted First Class Mail US Postage Paid RES’.
I did, as I do all documents destined for garbage.
I’ve never even looked - I’ve just given the nice lady my card, she’s found me on the list, checked me off; and I’ve voted.
Next time, I’ll ask if anyone other than my husband is registered at my address. (But I always thought they sorted them by name. All I”ve ever noticed at the polling place is a big old printed binder at the tables where the ladies check one’s name off.)
I have received two applications for absentee ballots from the Trump campaign. Postage paid.
I will vote in person.
If it were me, I’d challenge this guy’s voter reg in writing and have him removed. But I’m semi-retired.
Just as a project to report on. Don’t expect the bureaucracy to respond.
Do you really mean ‘absentee’ ballots, or ballots of any kind?
In my state, you actually have to request an absentee ballot, fill out an application, and have the ballot sent to you.
I doubt that you’ve received a ‘ballot’ of any kind, from the Trump campaign. They would have no jurisdiction over your local elections.
You are either trolling, or are supremely ignorant about election law.
Correction to my previous post: You may have received INFORMATION about absentee voting from the Trump campaign - I don’t know what they are doing, because they don’t communicate with me.
But I doubt you have received an APPLICATION for an absentee ballot. You have to request that from your local board of elections, which has jurisdiction.
They are not registered elsewhere.
Mail it back on Nov 4.
Use demon-rat tactics and vote with them. The enemy would, and it’s well past time to use their own tactics against them
THAT WAS SARCASM, for those in Rio Linda...
