I’m watching Steve Lookner on Youtube. He has feeds coming in from many sources. Lights went out in Lake Charles, LA. Reed Timmer is right there, sitting in his vehicle. He’s gone down a couple times.
Yet their coverage standing out in the winds and heavy rains is about useless, especially Stephanie Abrams shrill, almost shrieking voice. She was almost blown over at one point. To what purpose?
The one I stayed in each time was the Isle of Capri on the west side of the lake. After Hurricane Rita in 2005, one casino was destroyed while another was damaged. The Isle of Capri casino, however, was beat up but still seaworthy.
Someone in their maintenance crew decided to pull up the anchor and set the casino ship adrift on the lake. The winds blew it across the lake to the other side but it was still intact. The boat was tugged back to its mooring and they were back up and running in days. It was the ones that tried to ride out the storm in their anchored position that suffered the worst of it. Cutting the ship loose, ironically, was the smart thing to do.
In July 1969 We were unloading the Moving Van. Dad got transferred to Houston (IAH) Intercontinental Airport (now is Bush A/P) and We had been in.New Jersey so it was over 100F and about 800% Humidity and killing Us “Yankees”. Well the next Weather event was going to be a Hurricane. So We followed the Neighbors and got 3/4” Plywood and cut it to cover all the windows. Then We waited and Prayed. It rained forever. One hell of a transition for Us.
Just had a text exchange with a friend in Lake Charles. No flooding in his part of town so far. Had some property damage (superficial not structural) at the rear of his house. Hasn’t gone outside yet to look at the front. His neighbor has a tree down on his house and some powerlines are down.
