Are you logged in?
close it manually
or put a request in to close it
Who is the account provider?
What’s your question?
Try to track down any online accounts tied to the email address and close them.
I think you need to check and see if there is anything that needs attention — elctronic bill payments, that sort of thing.
I suppose if you want to try with the relatives, it can’t hurt. Write a nice, friendly note. If they don’t respond, let it go.
My dad didn’t do email but my mom did. I had her logons and took it upon myself to close her accounts when she passed. Terminated both of their voter registrations too.
“Terminated both of their voter registrations too.”
Good idea. I’ve never heard anyone mention that before.
I hate that old joke about “now that she’s dead she’ll vote democrat forever”.
Close it.
I went through my Dads emails. Nothing interesting at all. Although it did give me a list of people who would want to know of his passing.
I also checked to see if there were bills paid online
Then I left it up for 60 days. I dealt with anything that came in
After that I just shut it down. Told the provider. I put an out of office message up.
Never looked back.
archive it in case needed for legal/conclusion of business purposes
other than that, respect the privacy of the dead

what to do with it
Thanks for posting about this possible issue.
Are these potential issues that can/should be handled by our final wills/trusts, or should we enable a survivor or 2 to handle these potential issues? We have a non relative estate manager named in our final will/trust to handle these issues.
Yep terminated my mother’s voter’s registration. She died in June and did not need my brother to vote for her in November.
1. bill payments. it’s years old, before bill payments tied to email
2. relatives. mostly unfriendly or resentful of something or someone. not really very interested in contacting them unless it is more life and death issue (this does not rise to that level). in the past, i have been open about it.
what about preservation for future family research?
