Americans can't stop shoving pizza into their faces

America's pandemic-induced love affair with pizza shows no signs of slowing down.

That's a huge relief for Papa John's, helping to speed up its turnaround plans. The pizza chain said Tuesday that its North American sales rose 24% over the past four weeks. Internationally, sales were also strong, jumping 23% for the period.

Pizza has thrived as other restaurants struggle mightily during the coronavirus pandemic. Pizza has been synonymous with delivery for decades, which is crucial when people are afraid or barred from eating inside restaurants. And it's cheap -- helpful during the worst recession since the Great Depression.

"Papa John's numbers demonstrate that value and convenience is likely to be a powerful combination even a post-pandemic environment," Morningstar analyst R.J. Hottovy told CNN Business.

You have to come to either NJ or NY for real pizza. Papa John’s is not real pizza.

Do you make your own crust? I’m looking for a good recipe.

For the past few months, Papa John’s has been running a nationwide TV ad for an 18” Pepperoni Pizza for $12 with one dollar going to charity. While the pizza is not the level quality I prefer, that’s an outstanding deal for those with lots of mouths to feed, so I imagine that has something to do with increased sales.

As for pizza in general, it’s quick, tasty, and comforting. No surprise it’s doing well during this pandemic.

Reminds me of Good Fellas. ... At the end. ..
He orders spaghetti. ... And says.... “Right after I got here I ordered some spaghetti with marinara sauce and I got egg noodles and ketchup. I’m an average nobody. I get to live the rest of my life like a schnook. See, the hardest thing for me was leaving the life.”

“One of the only redeeming things about NJ. Best Pizza in the country.”

Joey Tomatoes in Point Pleasant is fantastic. I am still a fan of L&B Spumoni Gardens in Brooklyn.

Yes, plenty. It spread fine. I must have gotten the ingredients wrong somewhere.

Oh, man. That takes me back, loved their garlic rolls. But I pretty much was a Burrito Brothers guy, back in the day.

There is a specific flour blend for pizza dough, you may have to go to a restaurant supply store to get it.

Make your own and it’s not expensive. And it tastes so much better...

Agreed. .. However I still can’t get the crust right. I fried the heating elements in my oven last year trying to get it hot enough. ... Fire extinguishers are your friend. .. Lol

That could be it. I can’t remember if I used just bread flour, or mixed it other flour. Or if I sifted it first or didn’t sift it. It was light and fluffy and punched great and rose nicely, but it was more like a cracker or biscuit than soft dough. I know some people like crunchy for their pizza, but I’m not one of them.

On the other hand, I made Cuban bread from scratch the week before for sandwiches, and it was heavenly. Took me back to my youth.

And I personally thank God for it.

One of the tenants in my commercial property is a pizza/sandwich place and they have been able to pay their rent.

My grocery store used to sell pizza dough in a bag. You might want to check that out unless you’re set on making everything from scratch. :-)

Yes, true! I personally love pizza but like making it at home. It’s fun, making the crust! And it freezes well, to be taken down when you need it.
