At the local place I go to for Breakfast, the Waitress always asks, Grits or Hash Browns? I always reply, Hash Browns.
Grits, more tasteless than Oatmeal. Yuck...
I call them ‘Egg Amplifiers’ or ‘Egg Extenders’ because I eat eggs over-easy. I mash the eggs up into the grits and suddenly I have 2 or 3 times the amount of eggs!................
I really dont enjoy grits in any form Ive had them.
I enjoy corn muffins, though.
Its like a potato. Without any seasoning or butter and salt and pepper, potatoes are horribly bland. With the right seasoning or butter plus salt and pepper they are delicious.
Also shrimp n Grits can be eaten anytime - not just breakfast. Add bacon and shrimp and cheese and they are heavenly.
I ordered breakfast at a diner in Scranton, PA once in 1974, with grits.
The waitress did not know what they were................
You should try garlic cheese grits...yum!
Someone hasnt made either grits or oatmeal correctly for you. You oughta come to my house. I make some of the best cheese grits youll ever eat, and some of the best oatmeal too. Ive made several converts.
add some butter and sugar
“Grits, more tasteless than Oatmeal.”
oatmeal is fabulous when cooked with half-half and seasoned with cinnamon, butter, and a bit of brown sugar; nuts added for crunch are good too
same with grits: cook with butter, milk, a bit of salt and pepper and then season with more butter ... grits can be baked the next day with cheese on top ... YUM!
I call grits southern polenta
Dont care for either of them.
More tasteless than oatmeal? Better see a doctor; your tastebuds are dying
If you put enough butter, maple syrup / brown sugar, raisins / dried cranberries / dried fruit, nuts and creme on them they are edible but so is cardboard after all of that.
Sorry, but butter, salt, and pepper make them wonderful.
‘Grits, more tasteless than Oatmeal. Yuck...’
Not when you get done adding some kind of salt, something sweet, and some kind of fat. Then they’s just some smooth and creamy saltysweetfatty-GOOOD....Mmm, mm! Try adding some bacon and maple syrup—tastes just like smooth, creamy bacon and maple syrup!
Bacon grits, cheese grits, grits with butter/sugar, BBQ shrimp and grits with andouille sausage, grits with over medium eggs popped on top with salt and pepper.
Im from Mississippi
Seventh generation and I prefer good hash browns too
And for Grits I prefer hominy grits....I dont know about his creamy mush
Ours had granular consistency
I do like grits but mostly either with butter and preserves or as a casserole with cheddar and chicken broth
Or Shrimp and Grits of course
Many southerners like hash browns....trust me
