Must We Fight Cancel Culture with Cancel Culture?
American Thinker ^ | 13 Aug, 2020 | J. Robert Smith

As of August 2020, we Americans are embroiled in an intensifying cold civil war. Democrats and the left are the aggressors. Cancel culture is a chief weapon. It's not being employed wholesale — yet — but it is being selectively used as a means of instilling fear in the citizenry.

As morally repugnant as cancel culture is, in war, the question is invariably asked: must we fight fire with fire? Must we cancel the left and its allies to stop their Jacobin terror? It's a legitimate question.

Decent Americans are, naturally, repulsed by the tactic — and, increasingly, personally threatened. Go crosswise the "progressives" and their leftist allies, and you could be unemployed, your reputation ruined.

Alexis de Tocqueville observed back in the early 1800s that Americans prize peace and stability. Makes sense, doesn't it? Peace and stability — under liberty — leads to real progress.

Most of us today are not at all different. We want matters settled civilly, through discussion and debate and at ballot boxes. There's no room for intimidation and violence. The Silent Majority awaits the November elections.

Repulsive, but didn’t Saul Alinsky have a rule for radicals to make their enemies live up to their own set of rules.

I’ve heard of ‘fighting fire with fire’.

In war, those with the better weapons normally win the war, and as of today, the enemy is being emboldened by our lack or equal or greater response.

I have no problem with a “cancel culture” at all. I go out of my way to avoid doing business with Democrats.

This. I'm not sure what it'll be, but the loony Left is about to throw a match on something they won't like.

Every time any subject is discussed on Facebook, etc, here comes a smug upper middle class corporate employee who trashes Christianity, Republicans, etc.

Why should major corporations employ outspoken intolerant religious bigots who HATE and discriminate against half their customers?

“Counteroffensives need to be driven by strategic considerations: to thwart a leftist takeover, systems must be challenged and captured. Resources must be denied. Power bases in establishments must be undercut. Means of doing so are legislative and criminal legal actions and civil litigation.”

This should be fought as a coup attempt. Individuals and businesses providing a dose of self defense when the police can’t do their jobs would help too.

The only way that those determined to “cancel” me, is gonna have to be the time I step in front of a bullet meant for some other buzzard!

They cannot silence me, nor do they inhabit one part of a single brain cell.

When will the cancelling be administered 5.56 mm at a time?

Must We Fight Cancel Culture with Cancel Culture?

_____________________________________________________

I agree to the extent that it can be done, but when virtually every corporate entity across every major sector of the economy is “’all in”’ with WOKE capitalism, you cannot hope to beat them through a conservative “’cancel culture” movement. You can, however, beat them through tariffs, increased corporate taxes, IRS audits, ambulance-chaser style lawsuits against corporate executives and their empowering Board of Directors, and a thousand other tactics pioneered by the Left. Go after the leaders and their wealth...eventually people will get the message or just wastefully martyr themselves. If it’s total war, then it’s total war.

we have two incompatible cultures living in this country. American culture and Neo Marxist culture. They cannot coexist. One needs to stomp the other.

Changing minds by force of words and logical persuasion requires the target of that persuasion to be both reasoning and reasonable. The radical Left is neither at this point. When words end, the war begins.

If you don’t fight it by taking your opponents out of jobs and incomes, they will impoverish you to the last man and completely take over in politics for the rest of your lives. They have already done it to many of your fellow conservatives for a couple of generations. You’re next.

How did people like Kamala Harris get to where they are today?

You have a point there. ;D

Maybe a conservative cancel culture effort could be effective, though, at making enough noise for confusion and cover. An anarchist wing of conservatism so to speak. The only differences in our tactics might be that we should avoid drugs and keep our pants on. ;D

Conservatives need to start beating the drum for “Free Speech.” It’s a concept and idea that still resonates with the American people and is the left’s unguarded right flank.
