What happens if there’s no clear winner?

WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE’S NO CLEAR WINNER? There has been a lot of loose talk from both presidential candidates about rigged or stolen elections of late, and many predict a lengthy legal battle over the presidency.

President Trump warned this week that the outcome could be in dispute for “months and months” or “for years.”

But let’s not get ourselves all knotted up in the claims of our hyper hyperbolic president or his rhetorically sloppy challenger, Joe Biden. Instead, let’s run through the realities of an inconclusive presidential election.

Nope, the Obama coalition won only because of the candidates we ran. Trump is not McCain and not Romney.

That is what I told my wife, people will vote just to stop the rioting, just to stop the BS especially if they think it will continue if Trump stays in the WH.

I’m no constitutional scholar. However, I did hear (I think correctly) Mark Levin explain that that date Congress has set as the latest for counting electoral votes is December 12th. If no candidate can muster 270 electoral votes, then the election for president is thrown to the house as described with the current house members (not the new Congress that will exist after the first of the year January 3rd I think). Since I believe 26 state congressional delegations are Repubican controlled you would think Donald J. Trump would win. The VP would be chosen by the Senate and should be a win for Pence. Please correct me if I have somethng wrong.

No clear winner?

President Trump has helped 10’s of millions of folks- broguth back busiensses, restrengthened our military, boosted the economy tremendously,- dropped unemployment for millions, including minority groups- record lows- on and ion and on it goes- and he’s given or goign to give a couple $1000 to families struggling during a pandemic- Obama by contrast gave folks just $25- Big whoop-

Biden has done nothing for America-

He has no plan

He’s a racist

He’s a pervert

He might be involved in illegal activities with burisma and possibly china too-

He wants to take people’s guns away

He doesn’t want people getting relief during pandemic-

What if the election has ‘no clear winner’? Not even gonna be close- Trump by a landslide-

I don’t know the 26 States (R) control, but you may very well be correct.

“If it is Michelle Obama as the VP pick, the GOP will be obliterated, something like 1964 or 1974.”

In 1964 the GOP was not obliterated. Goldwater ran via the Conservative Party, which was a mistake.

As for 1974, I assume you mean 1976, and the GOP was not obliterated that time either - Carter won 297 to 240. If Ohio had gone the other way, Ford would have won.

Besides, Michelle Obama is popular only with Democrats - she won’t draw any votes away from Trump, so the GOP won’t get “obliterated”.

However, there is a danger that she could increase Democrat turnout enough put Biden over top.

My opinion is that having Michelle on the ticket would be extremely polarizing, and would energize pro-Trump turnout as well.

I’m pretty sure Trump wins re-election, regardless.

There will be a clear winner announced on November 3rd or shortly thereafter. The questions whether the losing side accepts the results. And my prediction is that no matter who wins or by how much, the loser and his supporters will challenge it. And when the challenges fail then consider the winner an illegitimate president for their entire term.

When you replied: “It will be Bush v. Gore, Part II.” that was exactly what I was thinking. Bulging eyed man staring at a ballot for a hanging chad.

Of course, that made me think of the debates.
Hammond’s characterization of Gore was faultless. Will Ferrell plays Bush, but the main inference is the crazy “lockbox” and Gore’s bizarre behavior.
(this is back when one could at least find some “funniness” in SNL)

Pelosi resides until enough mail-in voter votes are “found” to put the democrats in the winners’ slot. But don’t worry, you say that around here and the old crotchety Freepers living on ranches in Montana snortin’ whiskey and eatin’ hard tac will call you a pearl clutcher.

Find one person who voted Trump last time who is switching to dems now....many dems are, ARE switching to Trump as we speak.

I think a lot of white suburban women ... formerly called 'soccer moms' ... are getting sucked into the whole BLM virtue signalling thing and at least some will switch from Trump to once again prove they are not racists. They learned nothing from voting for Obama to prove they were not racists. It only works until the dems decide they need to accuse you again to get you back in line.

So sick of your negative spamming at any opportunity.

Boy I'll second that ... This "person" is one of several eeyores that in my opinion need to be shown the FR door. I think that they are here simply sow discontent and doubt towards DJT. Enough ... either stop with the negativity or GTF out of FR.

Lets say on election day we have a nationwide power(think EMP) or internet outage or some other catastrophe.People could not get to polls to vote. Would only the mail in votes be counted, would the election be extended?

Neither option is necessary.

Federally, elections for President are a proxy. If a disaster prevents an election from happening, the state legislatures have Constitutional authority to directly appoint electors to the Electoral College.

In the Senate, the 1/3rd vacant seats can be filled by Governor appointment until the next scheduled federal election.

Only the House would suffer, as they are all up for reelection. The governors would each independently schedule special elections to fill the vacancies.

The net effects are l) the President will still be elected by the Electoral College, 2) the Senate will still function to advise and consent on nominees, and to ratify treaties, 3) no bills will pass or impeachments sent to the Senate until the House is seated later.

You keep coming up with these outlandish claims.
1. There was no presidential elections in 1974
2. The closest elections to 1974 was 1972 and Nixon won a massive 49 state landslide in 1972.
3. Moochelle will bring in more black votes for Biden but then increase white votes for Trump. Trump still wins.
