Flubros and Flubras! Day 139 (a place for Flubros and Flubras)

It’s just the flu, bro.

Worldometer has US cases dropping for nearly 4 weeks now. We are on a downward path for Coronavirus deaths. Even tens of thousands of tests with many false positives can’t stop the inevitable decline in CV. This decline will make many people unhappy. They will say and believe stupid things such as “it’s a shame that CV cases are dropping because it will cause us to let down our guard.” These people are deranged.

-

This is a bit off the topic of Coronavirus and lockdowns but I think it may be related - Are people stupider than ever? I think people have more access to information that ever before but I just think that actual intelligence is dropping. I also think wisdom is dropping because we have seen a large drop in knowing right from wrong. Much of the CV hysteria is rooted in these things - more information, less intelligence, and less wisdom.

My friend’s son who is a cop in a small town in Alabama has it along with most of the police department. He has been going out with his other friends and his girlfriend who all have it. It isn’t slowing them down much.

I don’t think that people are getting much stupider, it’s just that now the Internet lets people display their stupidity so much more widely.

6 Questions an Honest, Intelligent Reporter Would Ask Dr. Fauci About COVID-19

By Stacey Lennox Aug 08, 2020 8:03 PM EST

If you had been going down the rabbit hole of COVID-19 research for long enough, a few things would be astounding to you. First, how uninformed, uncurious, or deceptive reporters in the corporate media are on a matter of life and death. Second, how much publicly available information about COVID-19 is on the internet contradicts what is reported and said by Health Experts™on cable news. Finally, it is impossible to believe Dr. Anthony Fauci enjoys a 62% approval rating.

Of course, part of the reason Dr. Fauci enjoys this level of trust is that reporters who interview him put a sort of religious faith in every word he utters. Having worked with doctors for years, I don’t suffer from any such affliction. There are some great ones, some awful ones, and some who are great at one thing and not another.

It is also quite reasonable for doctors to disagree. Medicine is the art of applying science and it is rarely “settled.” This healthy tension is why patients get second opinions. Yet during the COVID-19 pandemic, only one doctor has had almost no pushback in any public interview. This is journalistic malpractice, but not surprising. Most of the corporate media agree with his recommendations or can use panic porn clicks.

snip

1. How is COVID-19 a novel virus?
2. Why should we worry about COVID mutations?
3. Doesn’t COVID-19 behave like SARS?
4. Why not give patients hydroxychloroquine and zinc?
5. Doesn’t the wide range of symptoms make sense?
6. How does the government respond to broader immunity than you expected?

Re: Are people stupider.

I think “stupid” isn’t it as much a “unable to research and come to a conclusion.” Pre-internet one had to go to many different sources and gather information to draw a conclusion. Even something like the evening news or a newspaper did more things like present the story without providing what you were expected to think about it.

Today they just hop to Wiki - the “expert of experts” - to find out what you are supposed to think about things. The problem, as you obviously know, is that these single-source sources are very biased, and often incorrect. “Snopes says” is another great example of this.

I see this on the conservative side, too. I remember some 20ish years ago hearing about a supreme court decision on the radio news at work. I wasn’t sure what I thought about it, and breathlessly waited until lunch when I could run out to the car and listen to Rush. So I would know what to think. About half-way through that I realized what a fool I was. Certainly, it is fair to listen to Rush to hear a perspective, but to use him as my single-source made me as much of a sheep as we accuse the left of being. Very eye opening.

You can also see it in the way they Google-search things. They take the top entry, even if it has nothing to do with the topic they were searching for, or not even noticing it is an ad. They just don’t know how to research. Meanwhile, I’ll look at the top results, tweak the search criteria, look again, and fine tune until I see a consensus from a variety of sources.

So while you are right it is a drop in knowing right from wrong, I think it also is a case of not knowing there is a difference, or how to find the difference.

Thinking is hard work.
It’s easier to let others do that and not question what’s seen reported or posted to some internet forum.
How much does 7 boxes of tissue at $1 per box cost? Ask my phone. Or my neighbor ‘cause it’s too hard to find the calculator app on my phone. Or search engine, though would have to type and click some things. That’s a lot of effort. Wheew!
Rather than independence and self-reliance, promote reliance on others and have others shoulder the consequences of my mistakes. No thinking required.
Hold everyone back to the least common denominator.
Personal death is scary. Most don’t want to contemplate what comes after death though not guaranteed their next breath.
Please don’t disrupt my distractions(Roman Circuses) from having to think about my eternity.
Boo!

Lets not forget the CDC’s own death chart:

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid_weekly/index.htm

It is in the middle of the page and typically takes a few seconds to load up. It shows that deaths have dropped off to almost nothing in the USA.

It is on a time lag on CDC...their numbers won’t make sense unless you look back 4 months.
