One would think that all of the chinese-wuhan death virus was destroyed in that area given the heat from the blast.

Beirut/ Lebanon could the pearl of the eastern Mediterranean if they would kick out the Syrians, Turks, Russians, Iranians, Chinese, and all the proxy jihadi forces...but they are doomed to perpetual violence and suffering...

Someone in the early thread on this commented on The Abdul Factor being at work here. Looks more and more like the right answer.

I had no idea the French had such a history with Lebanon. Now I see why Macron is there.

Random WIKI searches:

“In 1920, soon after the end of World War I, the League of Nations mandated that Lebanon would be administered by France after the Partition of the Ottoman Empire. Lebanon became part of the French Mandate for Syria and the Lebanon and administered from Damascus and officially part of the French colonial empire.”

“The French mandate lasted until 1943, when two independent countries emerged, Syria and Lebanon. French troops eventually left Syria and Lebanon in 1946.”

“Almost 40% of Lebanese are considered francophone, and another 15% ‘partial francophone,’ and 70% of Lebanon’s secondary schools use French as a second language of instruction.”

“How many Lebanese are in France? The Lebanese population in France is estimated to be from 225,000 to 250,000 people.”

“A 2012 study conducted by Statistics Lebanon, a Beirut-based research firm, found that Lebanon’s population is estimated to be 54% Muslim (27% Shia; 27% Sunni), 5.6% Druze, 40.4% Christian (21% Maronite, 8% Greek Orthodox, 5% Melkite, 6.4% other Christian denominations like Armenian Orthodox, Armenian Catholic, Syriac.”)

Maybe Macron should get his house in order before telling others what to do.
