In 1985 the Philadelphia PD pulverized a house full violent anarcho-primitivist activists. Whether they were justified in doing so is only for you to say.
But at which point would such paralyzing force be warranted against a currently active group that doesn't beg mentioning?
Yes or maybe no.
It depends.
Burning down the whole block was a bit of an overreach.
I was living outside of philly at that time. Local LE likened the use of the explosives on MOVE (off the record, of course) to Butch Cassidy using dynamite on the train car.

It was a Democrat who did it, IIRC. Ed Rizzo?
The author should ask the question more accurately:
Would it be a good idea to stop the Antifa riots in the street out front of a Federal Building by starting a fire and destroying the nearby apartment buildings full of people who had nothing to do with the protests?
Would anybody think that was a good idea?
But it caused the kerosene etc stored on top of the house and inside to start a fire. Because of the danger to the firemen, the fire got out of control and spread to adjoining row houses.
This cult had kids there some taken from custodial parents. They were fed raw food and often not dressed warmly because the cult leaders said this is how Africans lived. These kids were malnourished.
The cult members harassed and threatened their neighbors, most of whom were middle class blacks. Those living nearby asked the city to do something. The mayor at the time was Black and remained popular because those living in the area knew how bad the group was.
It says a lot that most of the misinformation about what happened is by left wing human rights groups, not locals.
That was some reaaly crazy shiite. Was there. Osage ave.
They let the buildings burn to the ground
Firefighters were taking on flak from the crazy move idiots
If GOODE WASNT BLACK. PHILLY WOUKD HAVE BURNED TO THE GTOUND
BUT HE WAS. SO big deal. Nothing to see here
Good take. If that’s truly the case, and it very well may be, then it changes everything.
Phillys first black Mayor, Wilson Goode, gave the order to drop the firebomb after a request from the Philadelphia Police Department. It was only supposed to smoke out tbe crazy radicals in the one house. But all the houses on that block were pretty old, with flat tar roofs over old, dried-out wood and tarpaper frameworks. Sparks flew (it was in May) and whoosh! Theyre just lucky it wasnt Augusthalf of West Philly would have gone up in flames.
Frank Rizzo (former Police Commissioner, former Mayor) had already left office. His brother may still have been the Fire Dept CommissionerI dont recall.
