Current research suggests that it is imperative for researchers and educators to pay more attention to the needs of African American adolescent girls and how their race and gender affect schooling (Fordham, 1993; Morris, 2007). The purpose of this study was to highlight the lived experiences of two African American adolescent girls when they used the African American womens speech practice, Talking with an Attitude (TWA), with their teachers...
The findings indicate that the girls reappropriated the use of TWA to resist what they perceived to be hostility and disrespect on the part of their teachers.
Although other races, ethnic groups, and cultures may appropriate talking with an attitude, it has been recognized in the literature as part of the AAWSC and the Black Diaspora, so this study focused solely on African American girls because of its history within this community.
For many African Americans that self-identify as members of the AASC [African American Speech Community], attitude holds another layer of meaning, including to the extent that attitude becomes manifested overtly, through language and kinesics, by a speakers ability to talk with an attitude, walk with an attitude, act with an attitude, be with an attitude. In many instances within the AASC, then, attitude actions are marked distinctly and can be read by other group members. These are actions that are learned socio-culturally in socially real contexts (emphasis in original; p. 107).

That covers about 2% of all their interactions.
What’s the explanation for the holding of the phone like a pizza tray and using the speakerphone in private, in vehicles and in public?
How about the inability to decrease sound pressure levels below 120 dB in restaurants and airports?
I always thought that they all must be hard of hearing - kinda answers a lot
of questions.
An Amish with a 'tude?
You know that's unheard of.
We have those loud, obnoxious folks around here sometimes. They show up primarily in the Summer or Holidays. Men, women, black, white. We call them New Yorkers.
“And due to their IQ deficit are not able to control their emotions.”
Genetics and brain design are now showing blacks have portion of their brain that controls impulse (or I should say lack of) to be smaller than other races but no one is allowed to talk about physical differences between the races.
“Its just another product of a 20 point IQ deficit...combined with a chip on their shoulder.”
And very high testosterone levels allegedly.
Thanks i just saw this movie again the other nite
The Author interviewed all of two, count em (2) girls in order to come to these conclusions. Which (in my opinion) were exactly what she wanted them to be. I wonder if anyone ever told her about significant sample sizes.
Guy out with wife and kid knows how to deal with these loud broads.

Those Wayans turned out some funny stuff
Having experienced this as a teacher I was interested. Violating all Free Republic norms I read much and at least skimmed all of the paper. I didn’t discover any “pearls of wisdom” that will make my job easier.
HOWEVER, what screamed loudly from the paper is what is glaringly absent. I word searched for father and parent - “not found”.
Everything hits the buttons of “perceived hostility and disrespect.”
Ding, ding, ding - we have a thread winnah!
Here, Du Bois explicates the idea that African Americans have the burden of displaying two selves, one that is acceptable to dominant society and one that wants to be the true self.
Who doesnt have that burden? One definition of stress is The bodys natural physiological response to restraining oneself from strangling the living $h!t out of someone who really deserves it.
People display different selves to those in authority over them (the boss), those over whom they have authority, their families, their friends, strangers.
And all of that testosterone goes out the window once they actually get clocked by someone (maybe for the first time in their life).
Glad the title told the story, would not have wanted to listen to that.
PhD?
Reads like an AdLib book of the 70’s with random bits plugged into empty spaces-
Loud mouth black girls?
Dumb people that grew up in a violent environment with ZERO accountability for anything.
And they ALWAYS will be that way.
Don’t hire them. Don’t have your kids in school with them. Don’t live near them.
And . . . always carry.
Well, I've perceived it as a 'thing' for decades, and now know a little more; though I think some would call me a racist for talking about it.
Section 8 vouchers make that nearly impossible in suburban America now ...
It’s good to see that the literature on this subject has evolved to the point that it has acronymsTWA, AAWSC, & AASC.
My experience with the subject matter is limited, but they seem to think, if they think at all, that volume makes them right. That and scowls, and eye rolls. They also kind of puff up.
I was their teacher, so there was little chance of them getting violent with methey weren’t a majority, and they knew they’d be expelled. If I could get them to laugh at themselves, it would dissolve the tension. I wouldn’t put up with their crap and them seem to respect me for it. But I would never raise my voice with them and try to play their game.
