Cord Cutters ATSC 3.0 NextGen TV
7/28/2020 | Enraged

So I'm looking into the NextGen TV that's set to start coming out. I noticed I lost the 8.1 channel already but I still get the 2 sub-channels 8.2 and 8.3 in the Portland, Oregon area. I started reading up on ATSC 3.0 and it looks like they want you to use an internet connection so the "software" can update as needed. But..... I also read that it will track what you watch, send targeted ads based on age, gender, income, ect. Not sure how they get that info except maybe from the internet provider. Geez, i just want to watch an occasional show in my wood shop while I'm tinkering on stuff. Now my OTA TV will track me? Also ATSC 3.0 only comes on super high end TVs right now and any adapter "box" I've found cost more than the TV I'm using now. ATSC 3.0 is rolling out now, and ATSC 1.0 will end in 2023 or 2025 depending on the market.

Any thoughts / tips from veteran cord cutters?

They use geolocation, often with Google Maps. One way to prevent it is with a good VPN.

The only cords I want to see cut are the cords connecting the Antifa/BLM b@st@rds from their mommies and daddies to their Uncle Georges.

Antennas work great, been using one for years. recently added Roku, and use the free stuff only.

Love the Roku stick.

IMHO there is no live TV worth watching, so I avoid Hulu, YouTube Live, Sling, etc. I’ve tried them, just not worth the money to me.

I keep Amazon Prime and Netflix. I’m testing HBO but so far underwhelmed.

Much better addons than Genisis. Exodus Redux, Scrubs v2, The Crew, Fen, TvTap, TempTV and Chucky Video for a different scraper. Descent and Laplaza also are better. Honorable mention for Tempest, Yoda, Taz and Alvin.

Yeah, I’ve had mine up for 10 years or so I think.
Gets me what I want, no hassles.
Now this?
Hopefully someone comes up with a simple fix that will down convert 3.0 back 1.0.

It sounds like you all are talking about streaming stuff, I just want to hit the “on” switch and get fed free OTA signals.
No boxes, no subscription, ect.

ATSC 3.0 appears to have streaming abilities from what I can figure out. But once again, internet based. Boo!

Sony 900H (2020 model) adds ATSC 3.0 and HDMI 2.1 (firmware update to come to enable HDMI 2.1) About $1000 for the 55”, and $1300 for the 65” when on sale. Or wait 2/3 years and it will be on lower end TV’s.

I don’t... Dont have to... just bare bones works spiffy for me. Try Scrubs v2 and Exodus Redux and TempTV at least. Scrubs usually hits on the first link and TempTV has live stuff. TvTap has live stuff too.

this is a last ditch effort of broadcast to compete with cable.

the internet provider will allow the rewinding of live events and other surfing while watching sports particularly
