We need to wear masks to prorotect ourselves from the vegetable virus!
I tell folks that “organic” is just a fancy word for manure.
I do not like food to rot in my fridge, better to get a bag. (R6he ones I get are mostly cabbage)
With Shoprite, I am surprised that CT, NY, and NJ did not get the note.
#Vegetable19
Any deaths, if they were to occur, I’m sure will be chalked up to Covid.
The post right below yours says “Good idea. Not worth taking any chances.”
This alert is rather outdated: JUNE 28.
Chances are that any recently purchased are good.
I recall seeing this alert and IIRC Walmart product numbers started with a Z.
I have read so many stories of bad lettuce that I simply will no longer eat any vegetable which can’t be thoroughly washed first.
Here is the CDC information - https://www.cdc.gov/parasites/cyclosporiasis/outbreaks/2020/index.html#:~:text=June%2019%2C%202020-,CDC%2C%20public%20health%20and%20regulatory%20officials%20in%20several%20states%2C%20and,Osco%20Signature%20Farms%20Garden%20Salad.
Any deaths that are related to this parasite with be attributed to COVID.
Yes, that was what I was thinking and it is sure to happen. Headlines: Virus surge due to Trump’s carelessness.
About Cyclosporiasis
Cyclosporiasis is a diarrheal illness caused by the protozoan parasite, Cyclospora cayetanensis. People become infected with Cyclospora by consuming food or water that has been contaminated with feces that contain the parasite.
....Cyclospora needs to be in the environment for about 1 to 2 weeks after being passed in stool to become infectious for another person. Because of this, it is not spread directly from one person to another. ....
...Symptoms of cyclosporiasis usually include:
Watery diarrhea
Stomach cramps
Loss of appetite
Weight loss
Slight fever
Nausea
Fatigue
Symptoms usually begin about 1 week after exposure to the parasite but can begin as short as 2 days or as long as 2 weeks after exposure to the parasite.
If the infection is not treated, symptoms can last for a few days to months. The symptoms may go in cycles in which you seem to get better for a few days, then feel worse, before the illness ends. ...
...Treatment
The treatment of choice is trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, sold under the trade names Bactrim, Septra, and Cotrim. No highly effective alternative antibiotic has been identified yet for people who have a sulfa allergy or whose symptoms do not get better after the standard treatment. Contact your healthcare provider to discuss treatment options. Diarrhea should be managed by drinking plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.
Prevention
You can reduce your risk of getting cyclosporiasis by following these recommendations:
Avoid food or water that may have been contaminated with feces.
Washing of produce, or routine chemical disinfection or sanitizing methods, are unlikely to kill Cyclospora.
Use caution when traveling in countries, especially those in tropical and subtropical regions, with minimal water treatment and sanitation systems by avoiding tap water, fountain drinks, ice, and raw foods like fresh produce.

Jane is there “Anything or Anyone” that you do not know?
I am impressed by your intellect.
Much safer to eat meat. It seems every outbreak of food poisoning for 20 years has been lonked to lettuce.
I used to buy butter lettuce in a plastic container with the toots still attached, but out local Jewel stopped selling them. I still buy whole heads in a container, Gotham Greens Baby Butterhead, and it lasts almost as long.
My Mom, however, doesn’t have the patience or time. She literally works from 8am through the rest of the day until she goes to bed at night around 9. She buys bagged stuff.
It isn’t 1931 anymore. Good to have those skills if we ever returned to that, though.
