WASHINGTON After the entire Yankees roster knelt before the national anthem on Thursdays Opening Night, two players took the extra step or simply stayed down, to express it literally on Saturday night. Aaron Hicks and Giancarlo Stanton became the first Yankees to make this controversial statement.
Before the Yankees and Nationals continued their series at Nationals Park, Hicks and Stanton stood in fair territory in left field and planted their left knees on the ground as The Star-Spangled Banner played. DJ LeMahieu stood next to Stanton, on his right. No Nationals players knelt.

That’s harsh, but I can’t blame them.
At this point there is no sport that I would watch.
These mamas’ boys have all the macho and none of the grit that it takes to actually be a hero like a Ranger or SEAL or any serviceman or servicewoman.
Another sport ruined. The way things are going. I wouldnt be surprised to see the jockeys and horses kneeling on the racetrack before the Kentucky Derby.
I could see Trump doing that.
I also could see him inviting some NYPD and maybe injured police/vets to stand with him for the anthem just before the first pitch.
The optics would be grand.
Millionaire athletes kneeling and injured vets/ NYPD police sworn to serve and protect, standing with Trump.
The Yankees had two millionaire employees kneel on their multi billion dollar brand tonight.
And Trump has every right to make hay with it.
The Yankees invited him.
Oops
Good idea
Stanton and Hicks are from L.A. County...
Stanton played baseball at Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks...
Hicks played baseball at Wilson High School in Long Beach...
I guess it is glass half full situation...Other players did not take the knee...
Youre exactly right. Most Americans except for cowed team executives and the media are completely bored with this ridiculous fad. Sports are supposed to be an escape from the problems of the day, not a showcase for them.

On Friday night, I turned on Fox Sports West for the game between Angels and Athletics...
The stadium announcer said something about victims of police brutality...She mentioned George Floyd...
I changed the channel...
I could watch CNN to hear about police brutality...I don’t want to hear about that at some baseball game...
Ain’t that special? Once this current stunt drives away a number of fans, and starts to become old hat, expect to see these coddled prima donnas piss on the flag to get more attention. They have already let us know by this despicable act they have no respect for America. Before this stuff ends some of them might even s**t on the flag. Patriotic fans should give them the “respect” they deserve.
Nor did anyone on Nationals kneel.
Taking the knee could be interpreted as imitating Derek Chauvins action to restrain George Floyd, and therefore as support for him and for the police.

Why not outright ban the public display of the American flag? After all, it's "way too political," "someone might be offended," and "it's 'only' a flag."
Regards,
Steinbrenner, I think, would have ordered the manager to seat the offenders on the bench, for the entire season if necessary. In his world, you come to the stadium to play ball, and play for his team. If you had any other desire...then you need to find a new team.
So you remember things like Mel Stottlemyres inside the park grand slam, great names from the 60s like Horace Clarke, Jerry Kenny, Celerino Sanchez, Johnny Ellis (despite how bad they were we would all try to imitate their batting stances), hearing about the greatness of Mickey Mantle but only getting to witness his sad decline. When they were winning big time , radio personality Bob Grant used to refer to them as the New York Inevitables, but I guess he didnt grow up as a kid watching them for about a decade as the New York Bunglers.
There was nothing like going to Yankee Stadium, rendezvousing at the Big Bat, grabbing your tickets and then entering through the tunnel to see that beautiful green expanse where names like Ruth and Gehrig and DiMaggio and Berra and Ford and so many others all romped around to fill the minds and hearts of little kids with thoughts of being a baseball player.
Think of whats being done to childhood by todays athletes.
Put out word that going to a knee is a supplication ...dong it for the Anthem is a vow to defend the Flag to the death....
That’ll stop them...
Have said since PDJT first got involved..
He should have thanked them for PRAYING and say one for him.
Wouldn’t be long before Ds and ACLU etal would have put a complete stop to it.
Would be nice - during the ‘canned fans’ if when a kneeler came up to the plate the PA System would have a whole lot of BOOING.
The ‘battle’ of emotions might get to top the games if they get ‘serious’ about it....<: <: <:
They can’t help.It they are morons
Kind of reminds me of ISIS minus the handcuffs and machetes.
I, as well as millions upon millions, of American loving individuals could care less about what these ignorant athletes do. sick of them
