Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Hicks kneel during national anthem

WASHINGTON — After the entire Yankees roster knelt before the national anthem on Thursday’s Opening Night, two players took the extra step — or simply stayed down, to express it literally — on Saturday night. Aaron Hicks and Giancarlo Stanton became the first Yankees to make this controversial statement.

Before the Yankees and Nationals continued their series at Nationals Park, Hicks and Stanton stood in fair territory in left field and planted their left knees on the ground as “The Star-Spangled Banner” played. DJ LeMahieu stood next to Stanton, on his right. No Nationals players knelt.

Surprised Stanton didn’t hurt himself kneeling.

Biting the hands that (used) to feed them. The BLM’s, Antifa’s and SJW’s aren’t into sports all that much. But you professional sports Wokers go appease them and crap on the fans who supported you. Strike 3.

Maybe so, but at the hands of other kneelers. I don’t care anymore.

Just stop watching, they all need to lose what they have to appreciate it.

Baseball’s (and basketball’s and football’s) loss. Not mine.

But who is politicizing the national anthem? Have you thought about that aspect of it? Do you care who is politicizing the anthem?

You’re exactly right. Most Americans — except for cowed team executives and the media — are completely bored with this ridiculous fad. Sports are supposed to be an escape from the problems of the day, not a showcase for them.

MLB, so yesterday.

I WAS a life-long baseball superfan.

I was in a bar yesterday, golf on one tv, MLB on another. I moved so I didn’t even have the game in view. NOT EVEN THE SLIGHTEST BIT INTERESTED.

I’m not watching or caring about any of it.

The Yankees are one team that actually plays God Bless America in the 7th inning.

Their own TV network doesn’t go to commercial until that is done..

Yankees are a brand that is pro America and pro Police- as they tend to show pics of people singing in crowd, even with the flag, and at least one police officer and their hat gets some TV time..

Yankees haven’t had a game on its own Network yet, and really no reason to do God Bless America at stadium.
But that brand they created and sell on their TV broadcasts is in contrast to people kneeling or showing disrespect to flag, country or police..
Since 9/11 that is something they have done.
And especially shown on their own TV broadcasts.
Two Yankees players while on road, may have tarnished the Yankee brand that will have Yankees brass scurrying.
No more anthem is just the start.
The Yankees weren’t part of the hate America crowd.
Now,they are..
Or at least two of the player showed them they are.

And Trump is set to throw out the first pitch in Yankees Stadium at some point.
It just got fun for Trump and scary for the Yankees and their brand.
Trump warned them..

Stanton is loser. Glad yanks lost.

Now Deblasio complaining Trump will throw first pitch. Trump is POTUS and a life long Yankee fan, and good friend of Steinbrenner.

Keep in mind, this is a sport that is playing in front of cardboard cutouts...I hope they get used to it.

Hubby hates, hates, hates Phil Collins....but I can hear him singing that line in my head.

Great post!

I had been a Yankees fan/baseball fan since around 1965. I stopped being a Yankees fan/baseball fan on July 23rd, 2020.

Wow. Same here.

My first Yankee game was April 11, 1965 against the Twins. I was being annoying so my Mom turned on the TV and told me to watch the game.

And now 55 years later, I'm thru. I've watched my last game.
