"Peter Green, John McVie, Jeremy Spencer, Mick Fleetwood and Danny Kirwan who make up the group Fleetwood Mac."

The original lineup, and Peter Green trained with John Mayall.

He was part of the early lineup, a blues-rock band with a sound completely different from that of the later, more commercially successful lineup that featured Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie. I liked both incarnations of the band.

Peter Green was great. He didn’t get a lot of recognition but he really was. I was lucky enough to see Fleetwood Mac in a small venue when Peter was still with them. Great show. They did a killer version of Oh Well that led into Albatross that I still remember like it was yesterday.

“The Green Manalishi (With The Two-Prong Crown)”

Now, when the day goes to sleep
And the full moon looks
The night is so black that the darkness cooks

Don’t you come creepin’ around
Makin’ me do things I don’t wanna do
Can’t believe that you need my love so bad

Come sneakin’ around tryin’ to drive me mad
Bustin’ in on my dreams
Makin’ me see things I don’t wanna see

‘Cause you’re da Green Manalishi
With the two prong crown
All my tryin’ is up all your bringin’ is down

Just takin’ my love then slippin’ away
Leavin’ me here just tryin’ to keep from followin’ you

“Albatross” is a timeless piece of music. I hear cover versions by newer artists and it remains evergreen.

RIP

RIP - Green wrote Black Magic Woman in 1966. That's almost a trivia answer these days.

Do I know THAT feeling! I can put myself at a table listening to Joni Mitchell in a Chicago coffehouse. But I couldn’t remember my phone number yesterday when ordering pizza.

One of the top rock guitarists especially for blues based

Sadly plagued with mental illness exacerbated by a bizarre LSD trip with German radicals Ranier Langhans and Uschi Obermaier when they were allegedly trying to talk him into doing a show for their kommune

Instead poor Peter went south bad mentally

Worlds best Jewish rock guitarists ever.....

Wasn't Bob Welch part of Fleetwood Mac at one time?

Only recently did I discover the pre 1975 Fleetwood Mac, before Nicks and Buckingham joined the band. Glad I did, there was a lot of great music in the earlier Fleetwood Mac lineups as well.

The short lived line up of Bob Welch and Bob Weston was one of the best, maybe the best they had

Weston got booted after he and Jenny Boyd got caught bangin’ in the back, Mick Fleetwood got mad

But Weston was only equaled by Green

The Bob Welch album French Kiss was great. And I know the guy who designed the album cover.
