Europes Airbus said on Friday it would increase loan repayments to France and Spain in a final bid to reverse U.S. tariffs and jog the United States into settling a 16-year-old dispute over billions of dollars of aircraft subsidies.
The European Union, France and Spain said the move to raise interest rates paid by Airbus on A350 aircraft development loans should settle the row at the World Trade Organization and urged Washington to withdraw tariffs on EU goods.
In the absence of a settlement, the EU will be ready to fully avail itself of its own sanction rights, EU Trade Commissioner Phil Hogan said.
The loans are part of a system targeted by the United States in the worlds largest corporate trade dispute, which has also aired condemnation of U.S. support for Boeing.
The United States last year won WTO authorization to impose tariffs on up to $7.5 billion of EU goods from wine to whisky.

Except for the several times I’ve made it a *point* to fly the A380 (a very nice aircraft) my attitude has been “If it ain’t Boeing I ain’t going”

I miss Lockheed and McDonnell Douglas. I even miss Convair, even though I never flew in one of their jets.
Lockheeds Galaxy almost became a civilian jumbo jet in its own right, the proposed Lockheed L500.

I've seen it written that the Lockheed L-1011 was cutting edge in many ways...for its time.OTOH,my very first flight was with my Dad in 1962...the Lockheed Electra.I was old enough then to hear the news and read the papers and,as a result,I knew that the Electra had a less that perfect...a *much* less than perfect...safety record.
I nearly peed my pants on that flight I was so scared. But since then I've logged about 500,000 flying miles suffering nothing more than a stiff neck from trying to sleep sitting upright...and being on a plane that had a bomb threat called in on it.

Lockheed modified the planes to fix the problem; by then, jets were taking over and most Electras were modified into freighters. About 100 Electras are still flying today.
